The Universal release seems to have excellent PQ @ AQ. Really?...is it that important to gripe about it just so you can have a "C" on the package. There are so many films that need Criterion upgrades before Moonrise Kingdom.

Exactly.
This is completely unnecessary and a little bit too "Wes Anderson fanboyish".Most importantly - it won't change anything.

Criterion needs to end its annoying love affair with Bill Murray and Wes.

Wes Anderson is uptown, now; doesn't need Criterion anymore.

Come on. If Criterion releases this it instantly makes it something truly special and not just another release. Forget all those movies Criterion could put out that other studios won't. We really need to make sure all of Wes Anderson's mediocre movies are part of the collection even if another studio has already released it. We must all band together, do all that we can, and rectify this injustice.

Maybe they can stop releasing anything new all together, and focus their efforts on re-releasing anything already out on blu-ray by someone else.

..actually..that unfortunately will please many people...

No, thanks. It'd be a waste of a release. The regular edition will be perfectly fine.

This isn't about what Wes Anderson needs. It's about what his fans want. We want extensive special features. He can sit back and enjoy his own movies if he so wishes and he already has all the behind the scenes info in his head while we do not. That's the whole point.

While I agree with everyone here, there are plenty of movies not even released on blu-ray that need to be, I personally want to see all of Wes Andersons films as part of the criterion collection for the special features department.

I don't really care about the prettier packaging and the "C" but it does bother me to no end that any of his films released by Criterion get pretty packed with special features and any that don't, get shit all.

I want an audio commentary and/or an extensive (60+ minutes at the very least) 'making of' documentary. If they got it right I wouldn't crave the criterion treatment but as it is, the special features for Fantastic Mr. Fox & especially Moonrise Kingdom aren't good enough. Moonrise Kingdom is basically barebones which might be good enough for people who only care about watching the movie but special features are my main deciding factor in buying a blu-ray so it's pretty irritating when I end up giving in and buying a lazy release.

Say what you will about Criterion and Wes Andersons relationship but at least they're considerate enough to give fans what they deserve.
