Creating and destroying life are two very different things. It's a classic case of the creation destroying the creator.

Where's the bottom line for Weyland? What ELSE was he trying to accomplish? We also find out through Janek that this was some kind of weapons depot, "maybe even military". Weyland wanted immortality but David's actions prove something WAY deeper than that...

To me it looked like the engineer's face was a bit disfigured when he arrived at the pod.

I'm thinking that since the black gunk made that red-headed geologist immune to the atmosphere (in addition to giving him new-found retard strength), maybe if the engineer took a bath in the stuff during the crash, it was affecting him in a similar fashion.

Or, it's a plot hole.

He's a transhuman biomechanoid. his suit infuses with the skin. he doesn't need air (or even seem to feel pain when Shaw hits him a bunch of times with the axe) The breathable air seems to be for the little squidlies in the temple. Millburn catches one of em in the deleted scenes

All good science fiction has cliffhangers
Prometheus gave lots of answers. it just presented new questions, as a good science fiction should

Couldn't agree more.
Ridley Scott does character pieces/studies, but Cameron is about the story

lol that was one of his old designs for Dune, but they didn't use it
so Giger ended up making a little 30 second Japanese commercial with the design

skullface pyramid has so many variations, good to see it make an appearance in Prometheus

I'm not crazy about all of James Camerons movies and a couple would probably classify as "stinkers" for me but saying a movie stinks has nothing to do with how successful it is and Cameron has certainly made, mostly, successful movies.

For example. I'm not a big fan of Titanic. The set-design and look of the film is incredible and the ship sinking is epic...but the Jack and Rose story is cringe-worthy IMO. It felt forced and the dialogue was cheesy and in turn made the acting silly....for me anyway. There is no denying its crazy success though and fully acknowledge that.

I figured his face was that way due to injuries from his ship crashing...but like I mentioned before. 2 minutes without a mask and your dead, as the female "scientist" said...but who knows how resilient the engineers are to that planets atmosphere. 2 mins for us could be 5 to 10 for them...and its not like the lifeboat was miles away er anything.

Aren't the engineers basically terraformers?...er whatever its called. I would think that will the ability to create life comes the ability to sustain it.
[Show spoiler]
I like how when the egineer woke up, he had absolutley no "sleeping sickness" of any kind. He was ready to rock n roll right away! But when the humans sleep for a mere 2 years they are sick when they wake up and need lots of fluids and high calorie shakes to recover. All the engineer did was stretch, take a deep breath and slightly stumble-and he has been asleep for quite
[Show spoiler]some
time himself right? We assume 2000 years, but maybe he hasn't been there that long? Maybe he has, what about the the 4 space jockeys standing in the entry way to the sleep chamber? Why are they there? How long? The same 2000 years? Noone has answered about those space jockeys either.
Are they empty suites? I must know!

I had a bigger problem with the squid baby gaining so much mass. I mean, the thing was tiny at first, but then ended up being huge! What did it eat?

I have a theory that SHAW spraying the chemicals on it and leaving it in a medical capsule filled with god knows what made it grow huuuuuuuge
Prometheus has that frankensteinish theme of the creations killing the creators, just like Blade Runner

those Aliens don't need to eat and have never been shown eating
they're called the "perfect organism" for a reason

Deacon maybe the most pure too, since he had that sculpture alter thingy

Can't know for sure, but I assumed they were empty suits, maybe from those who were in the cryosleep capsules...

Ambiguities are one thing, but not tying up a film's plot in a satisfactory manner or sequel-baiting are not something I'd call characteristics of "good" scifi.

Iceland http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dettifoss

Scott said in the audio commentary it could represent any planet though
could be earth.. could be somewhere else
the point is to show the ritual of life creation

I didn't realize what a funny guy Ridley was until listening to it.. his humor

Scifi's with neat wrap up endings = eh,,
Cliffhangers/bizarre set ups = Awesome, creative, memorable, etc

The original ending Scott wanted for ALIEN was that it ate Ripley's head and then entered in the coordinance for Earth. That would have been awesome o_o but the studio intervened and told him not to do it. Just like comparing the ending to Blade Runner theatrical, to the Final Cut

Luckily for Prometheus we got an awesome wtf bizarre set up I never expected
[Show spoiler]take me to paradise
