Awesome to see this getting done. I second Azumi - and of course getting the 2nd released in USA on any foramt would be nice too.

I was hesitant to pick this up on DVD because there is another series of films called Shinobi and they seem to be notoriously terrible. I read up on it and gave it a shot. It's definately worth buying again on Blu-Ray. The ultimate "Romeo & Juliet meets Seven Samurai meets X-Men".

I second the Azumi films as well as The Great Yokai War. That's a fun one.

In my humble opinion you are better off watching the full anime story Basilisk, instead of watching Shinobi. Basilisk is 10 times better a story then Shinobi. Basilisk I believe was released first (Based off a Manga series I believe) and then a much shorter, trimed live action version was released called Shinobi. They basically mutilated the story of Basilisk which had double the number of super ninjas (Shinobis).

But on a side note if you haven't watched Basilisk first this isn't probably that bad. I would strongly recommend you watch the live action film first before the anime. Especially if you're not a big fan of anime. If you like the movie then you'll love the anime. It broadens the story and makes a whole lot more sense.

I liked the premise of Shinobi/Basilisk but I thought the implementation of both was poor - Shinobi being too short to handle the full story and Basilisk just left a bad taste in my mouth. It was a combination of my dislike for the animation style and that the characters were too syrupy and melodramatic. Also, I've never found Funimation to have very good video quality on their discs.
