Come on, it's a three second scene worth of cuts - I can't understand why everyone gets so mad about it. I get angry because Disney lied about the version they released, but the actual cut makes no difference to the overall tone of the film at all - hell, if so many people hadn't have mentioned it, I'd have probably never remembered that the tip was supposed to be there when I re-watched the film. I agree that £20 is ridiculous for this steelbook but not because it has a slight cut in it, but because it's just plain not worth that amount of money.

Yeah, your kinda right on the price regardless of the cut, but to me, the death really did have much more meaning added when you saw the full brutality of it represented by the spear tip going through him.

I think knowing it was missing and seeing it, that really did disappoint me and i want it sorted out with a new release

I know how you feel, I'm trying to get the Italian Blu Ray which is uncut but for some reason Amazon Italy have pulled it!

It obviously means a lot to you so I hope that they do re-release it, but I doubt they will - Disney really don't seem to care about customers at the moment and the lying they did about this version is simply unacceptable. They won't waste money on correcting something that they've tried to cover up as best they can. I just hope that, if Phase Two releases all get steelbooks, it doesn't end up with Disney releasing them.

Disney are now responsible for all theatrical and home video releases of 'official' Marvel Cinematic Universe titles so unfortunately that's the way it is. If it's any consolation, at least Iron Man 3 will still get the Paramount logo in front of it and on the packaging so if it get's the steelbook treatment it'll match the first 2.

I sent my HMV copy back for a refund and ordered the version from Spain. It just arrived today and is in mint condition EXCEPT it has a horizontal crack about an inch long in the plastic on the front-inside-top (where the plastic curves).

I'm thinking of keeping it since the crack is mostly hidden by the overhang when looking at it normally. What do you guys think? Keep it or return it?

Also, is this version cut? I'm curious to see what all the fuss is about.

Well, no. Not necessarily. Paramount will have their logos on the packaging and in the movie credits as part of the deal they struck with Disney but the release is 100% up to Disney and has nothing to do with Paramount.

AND the commentary
AND more extras
AND the lack of multi-formats.

also have to disagree about the lack of sphere tip not altering the tone of the movie.
it does to me. If I didnt know better I'd think he had his back broke or something....then all a sudden we see all this blood from a frontal wound on Coulson...sure its easy to miss but it bugs the **** out of me that it so blatantly has changed

Umm, that's what I said. Disney are responsible for all theatrical and home video distribution for the Marvel Cinematic Universe titles, but Iron Man 3 will still get the Paramount logo.

I didn't say they'd be releasing it any more than they released The Avengers/Assemble, just that their logo would be on the box. That way, at least the 3 Iron Man movies will have some consitancy on the shelf before we start geting the Disney logo appearing on all future packaging.

I needed an extra copy.
HMV Exclusive: 22,50 gbp = 29 Euros P&P included.
No 3D.

Amazon.de: 3D steelbook = 27 Euros P&P included + 100 times faster shipment & packaging method.

I just bought the last one from Amazon.de! LOL!!!!! How lucky .

Iron Man 3 will have a Paramount logo on the case yes, but the design will be completely up to Disney.

Unless you're only talking about the Paramount logo and not what the actual packaging will look like. Even then, there's no guarantee where Disney will put the Paramount logo.

There won't be any Disney logos on future packaging. They have stated that they want Marvel to be seen as it's own entity so won't be using their logos on Marvel marketing material.

I think we're discussing nothing really.

Yes, as we've both said, Iron Man 3 will have the Paramount logo on the spine. I didn't say they'd have any other control (packaging or otherwise) over the film itself. Based on The Avengers/Assemble I suspect Disney will leave the Paramount logo at the top of the spine, it would make sense (even if Disney and sense don't often go hand-in-hand).

As for them not putting their own Disney logo on future releases, I'd be surprised if they don't. Based on all their other releases, if nothing else Disney love to see their logo covering every available space (they certainly use it enough on Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes). I guess we'll find out when Thor: The Dark World hits the shelves.

I was only responding to the version that was released here of the film, not the special features. I do think that the commentary should have been on the discs here - Joss Whedon is brilliant to listen to - but Disney had a reason that i thought was decent enough to allow them that slip-up (the fact that the discs were made too fast to get all the necessary features imported from the US version). I think that people only feel that the lack of tip ruins their movie experience because they know it should be there and that bugs them; if you didn't know that it'd been taken out and that the theatrical version was just that version, you wouldn't now say that the whole tone of that scene is altered, would you? Or maybe you would, and I'm being strange about it

I don't like the spear change, not just because it's been changed but changed for the worse and wasn't what I originally saw.

If the Blu-ray version had been the actual theatrical version (ie: spear never existed) then we'd have no reason to complain. It's like when you see scenes in a trailer that don't appear in the movie, you can't complain because the theatrical edition is what's presented to you. If the theatrical edition then gets edited further, you complain, if it gets extended then as far as I'm concerned alternate cuts/directors cuts/unrated editions should always be offered alongside the theatrical version, no instead of.

Some extended editions are better, some are worse but it should be up to the consumer to decide which one they want. Like with Star Wars, no one cares that Lucas has butchered the movies, they care that they can't have the original versions. If we had (like Blade Runner) a 5 disc 'Star Wars: The every version you could ever want edition' no one would complain.

I would personally as I wouldn't be sure what had happened. It looks like his backs being broken to me personally...until you see the mystery blood on his shirt.
Had it still have been clear (to me) that he'd been stabbed, right away, I wouldn't be as miffed. Others may interpret the scene differently, of course. Sure I use it as a point of complaint to Disney (why edit on a home release FFS) but it wouldn't bug me everytime I watch it as it presently does.
the sooner I get my US copy the better

Ok, I guess I have 2 dumb questions here about this disc:

1. What is the difference between English and English Audio Descriptive?

2. Since the aspect ratio fills my screen, I'm assuming I'm not seeing everything as I did when I saw it theaters?

3. This is OT, but the more I watch this film, the more I'm liking Barton/Hawkeye and curious to know his story - is there any plans for a release of a Hawkeye movie?

Thanks.

1. English - Regular film with English audio.
English Audio Descriptive - Same, but with audio description (ie. Loki looks up menacingly).
2. Nope, that's the aspect ratio it was filmed in; none of the image is cut out.
3. Probably not, there's hardly any demand for it.

Nothing for Hawkeye so far. The release calender right now looks like this:
  • Iron Man 3 - May 2013
  • Thor: The Dark World – November 2013
  • Captain America: The Winter Soldier – April 2014
  • Guardians of the Galaxy – August 2014
  • The Avengers 2 – May 2015
  • Ant-Man – November 2015

Other projects that are in limbo include:
  • Runaways
  • Dr. Strange
  • Black Panther
    &
  • Iron Fist

I assume you have the disc so you could check. English speaks for itself, audio description describes what's happening on screen for those with poor vision.

I also assume you have a standard 16:9 TV, in which case, that's the theatrical aspect ratio.

No idea. I doubt it somehow.
