Default Warner - Enemy of Blu-ray

I've had it with them. I was never going to buy their THD crap but I was planning on picking up some of the BDs they've already released and some of the catch-up titles. But at this point I'm content to completely boycott them until HD DVD is dead and they start using BD to it's full potential.

I'm almost completely with you on this... you'd have thought the sales of THE DEPARTED on BD would have been the wake up call (and the continuing sales of it on BD - while the hd-dud sales have fallen off the map).

THE MATRIX COLLECTION is kind of a "gimme" to the hd-dud camp - it will prolong the format war, but will not decide it - if this was 7-8 years ago it would've been a different story.

Of course, WB can do something very simple to lessen the impact of all this - and that is just to at least announce a MATRIX release date for BD.

Smile Buy all the blu-rays you can

Thats not the way to think.Keep buying from them and buy every title they sale as long as you buy it on blu ray.Once they see that a title is released on HD-DVD and it doesnt sell and when its released on blu ray the sales go off the roof they will think twice about not releasing it on blu ray at the same time. Its not there problem either, that blu ray hasnt gotten there Java teck going on time.Email Sony and let them know to get there ass moving so things like this wont happen again. They still plan to release it later this year.Ill wait .Be a good blu ray collector and keep buying from them. Its OK.

^^ That's right.

Buy Blu-Ray only products, even from Warner. Black and white numbers and sales figures are still the best way to get a message across one way or the other.

Yeah, boycotting Warner's BDs is like cutting off your nose to spite your face. Money talks and the ONLY thing that will ultimately convince the studios to go with blu-ray is for us consumers to vote with our $$$ and elect BD.

That said, Warner does have its head up its arse and it's been there for a long time, through the SACD rollout too.

It's a Catch 22. If you boycott there titles you give HD DVD a chance to stay alive longer, which infinitely complicates things.

If you buy all there titles, they are making money and still feel like they can continue to do this and we have to take it (cause there are no consequences).

On top of that, the BDA can't make them comply, because Warner Bros. have a great number superior titles that the Blu-ray camp needs to have. The only way out of this is to put pressure on the BDA to...GET 'ER DONE!

I for one am not going to purchase products that are inferior in picture or sound from any studio! Buying them would send the wrong message to the studios! Think about it, why would Warner include better audio in future releases if people keep buying movies with DD5.1?

Warner will see that the Departed sold 4:1 in BD's favor (hypotheticly), while Happy Feet only sold 1:1. They have to be asking themselves, where did we go wrong? The answer is The Departed had HD sound and Happy Feet did not!

Yes, BDA needs to get moving and realize that some of these technologies are all that is holding them back. It's probably why Batman Begins and V for Vendetta aren't out on BR yet. The stuff Warner mentioned for not releasing The Matrix on BR should become top priorities for BDA. However, I cannot support anything that is connected w/ Larry the Cable Guy, although you at least spelled GET correctly.

I think everyone is overreacting a bit. Is this good news for HD DVD? Yes. But in the bigger picture what does this mean? Nothing. Warner could have really laid the wood to Bd by releasing all the films individually not a boxed set. The Matrix is not Lord of the Rings. The hard core zealots will buy but really how many new adopters will buy into HD DVD because of this boxed set? Not many IMO.

As far as Warner being an enemy of Bd I don't know. They have said that by summer they will catch-up with Batman Begins, V for Vendetta, Troy etc. Let's see what happens. If these discs come out in THD I ceratinly will not buy them and would agree WB is really trying to stick it to the BDA.

The bigger question I have is why is it taking BDA to get the IME, Bd live or whatever iteractivity Warner claims to be waiting for finalized? I would really like to hear Paidgeek or Talkst8t respond to this.

We already know warner is going with the double dip on the LOTR trilogy by releasing the theatrical versions first. That enough has been pissing me off.

Then they will release the extended but it wont have dts and ill be waiting for yet another version. These studios really f'in piss me off sometimes.

Ill also be one of the people not supporting THD! Like i need to pay the extra expense for HDDUD whikle most likely getting stuck with a 25gig disc because thats where they choose to try and save money... F them!!!!!

I know most comedians have a stage character that is a bit different from their own, but his is more an act than most others. He's from Nebraska and went to private school, which is so far from what he acts like. Plus I just don't find him funny, except for a few jokes of his.

Why the hell does Warner think that PiP is so damn special to begin with. They're pissing a lot BD fans off because they want to be able to put an annoying little box on the screen of usless, old special features that I can't watch separately. Why don't they just use seemless branching to these features, which is working now, and release it that way? I simply don't understand why Warner is delaying titles just because they want to slap a little video box on the main feature; IMHO, that's just plain retardation on Warner's part.

I believe they have to do the theatrical versions if they are putting it on HD DVD without having the movie stop and continue on the second disc. So, in order to not give Blu-ray another selling point they only release the theatrical version. Therefore, claiming that a LOTR movie can fit on a single HD DVD disc.

This is like a spy movie. We have a double agents in our midst...and their names are Warner Bros. and New Line.

I'm pretty sure these IME aren't Deaf-Friendly to start with. In fact, Warner Bros. is one of the worst in this area. They rarely offer subtitles along with the special features, the only time I've seen the special features subtitled on a WB disc was the first Harry Potter and the third Harry Potter.

I should know since I own tons of DVD titles. Screw them.
