agreed people seem to freak out a lot when they GO INTO A THREAD DEDICATED to a movie and complain that their are spoilers it gets really ridiculous, at this point all spoiler tags should be rendered null and void

Yea but...

the Blue-Ray just came out. And quite a bit of people are going to be watching this for the very first time. And some of them might be checking this thread out due some of the dics being defective.

There is another Prometheus thread over on the 'MOVIE' board. Perhaps we could use that one as spoiler free.

Yeah, that's one problem with this forum. Too much discussion of movies in this forum area, which should just be for discussions of the Blurays--reviews of quality, extra features etc.

The Movies forum is where these types of discussions of the films should probably go--unless they want just rename that forum to just be for movies in theaters. Otherwise there's a lot of redundant--lots of discussion in this thread that happened months ago on the movies thread.

And it creates the spoilers problem as someone who's never seen a movie may read a thread in this Bluray forum wanting to get impressions of the audio/video quality, special features etc. and stumble across spoilers as people are talking about the film instead of the disc.

So I'd definitely say that any movie discussion in this forum area should be spoiler tagged. In the movies forum there could be some statute of limitation on them--if they're needed at as people should have the sense to stay out of a thread in the Movies forum once the film is out if they don't want things spoiled before seeing it. The same's not true for this forum area since people often want to read impressions of a disc before blind buying a movie.

So how long does a movie have to be out before we can stop adding spoiler tags? 6 months? 1 year? 10 years?

Come on, this movie came out in June. That was almost 5 months ago.

If people haven't seen this movie and want to remain spoiler-free, they should stick to reading reviews of the disc. Then come here and talk AFTER they've seen the Blu Ray.

exactly. the official site reviews are where they go for info BEFORE they see a movie. this is where they go AFTER

Why does there need to be a timeframe? There are people seeing 10,20,30-year-old films for the first time every day. I probably haven't seen the majority of the films that have come out over the course of cinematic history. Is it difficult to add spoiler tags or something? Highlight the text you want and hit the button.

Once again, how does the movie support what you choose to read into it? Doesn't that suggest the very opposite?
If you take a helmet off on planet with alien life assuming it's safe to breathe, that's hardly empiricism, that's just blind faith/stupidity. No halfway intelligent scientifically minded person unquestioningly trusts his instruments, and if that's really the point the film is trying to make here, then it's just a strawman, innit? Sloppy writing either way...

there are tons of movies I havn't seen but that doesn't mean I expect everyone to add spoiler tags for every single movie in cinematic history...some spoilers can't be avoided especially in a forum dedicated to movies...if you want to completely avoid spoilers then don't visit places where such info might be discussed

I will say, however, that the score is better than I first thought. I wouldn't call it outstanding, but it's still good.
The character development problems are hard to overlook, even if we do excuse some of the "huh" logic moments. I noticed this time around that I didnt connect with anyone and wasnt really rooting for anyone either. Im sure Ridley was hoping we'd see Shaw as a Ripley-esque character but she wasnt even close.

Like I said, my second viewing has only solidifed prior opinions. It also revealed fully that there isnt some deep, philosophical undertone in this film. Its just some decent sci-fi flick that loosely ties into the alien franchise. Or so we think. So, anyone trying the play "you didnt get it" card is way out of line. Nothing to "get". Its all right there.

Thats cool.

The problem is that you can see that the creators (meaning mainly Lindeloff and Scott) are convinced there is indeed, when the "exploration" of any philosophical or existential themes in the movie is so high-schoolish puerile that it's embarrassing.

I don't understand why the Engineers created those 'maps' to lead people to the base where they were developing the weapons?...doesn't make sense

If the Engineers are indeed the giant beings depicted in those cave paintings, then perhaps it's not an invitation to visit them, but a warning to humans. Like maybe the Engineers warned early human civilizations about where they came from and what's going on out there. You dumb humans get out of line and we'll bring back some black goo (or worse) from those stars in the sky and wipe you all out!!

Obviously Shaw & Holloway got it wrong. They were so wrong...

I would have liked it soooooo much better is Shaw drank the rum and choke and Holloway flew off to the stars with David.
But that sounds like something made for the LOGO Channel.

So what? How about people who don't want to be spoiled, take a bit of personal responsibility and avoid discussions about a particular movie until they've seen the movie themselves?

That's far more practical than asking the rest of the world to walk on eggshells and add spoilers to everything so we don't accidentally ruin a movie for someone who is freely nosing around but doesn't want anything to be "ruined".

Sorry, but Holloway needed to die, ASAP. In fact, I think it would have been great if someone at the dig site would have just mugged and murdered him and left him in the cave.

While Milburn was dumbly written, at least he was still a fun throwaway to watch.

C'mon, Lobster - didnt you harp on the spoonfed thing earlier here too? Look, we get that you really, really, really love Prometheus and find it to be the best movie ever. Thats fine, to each their own. It appears you've just joined here too, maybe just to defend the film which is also fine. But, its time to tuck the "spoonfeed/you didnt get it" card away for a while. The issues that are being brought up are quite tangible and certainly debateable. Some issues bother people more than others and some people are willing to overlook them. Thats all good with me too.

But geesh, chill on it a bit, bro. BTW: Its "spoonfed," not "spoonfeed" when used in that context. Just bustin ya balls.

Milburn....is a HERO? FFFWHAT?!? LOL.

[Show spoiler]If its for approaching the Hammerpede thats not what I would call heroic.

I remember hearing about a story of a guy who told his friend he could jump over/run over the hood of a car coming at him, Jackie Chan style er something, and ended up getting hit by the car and killed....I guess he's a "HERO" too, eh?

So a big question I haven't seen too often in this thread is:

Is Vickers
[Show spoiler]an Android or even a Replicant
?

[Show spoiler]Sir Ridley mentioned that there were maybe two artificial lifeforms on-board the Prometheus. The film does have a link to Blade Runner with the Tyrell reference as well. The way Charlize Theron plays Vickers there's a definite sub-text to her character. I quite like the idea that Weyland created a little-family for himself. With one knowing what he was and the other not knowing what she was. Just because he could, which gives a neat link to why the Engineers created us. They made us because they could.
