If BDA does something to strand these players that would be a pretty sad state of affairs.
Unless a very creative software solution materializes this will likely be what happens, which is why its silly for Warner to delay titles for the IME reason.

FYI, a great deal of care has been taken on a new transfer of Bram Stoker's Dracula, but the master is a bit soft. Please buy it, but don't be surprised if it does not knock you off your feet the way some other titles will. In any case, it will be a major improvement over the DVD, Superbit or otherwise...

Ey paidgeek,

I couldn't find your post (on AVS forums) regarding your positive comments after seeing the Final Fantasy : Advent Children film transfer for the upcoming Blu-ray version (to be released later this year).

I know this is though to ask but would you care to share with us some feedback and probably a few things to expect with this upcoming release?

Thanks a milliion.

Hopefully this is another title that Sony PE is going to dabble with either Dolby TrueHD or DTS HDMA. The cello in the score is great! Too bad we can't have DSD on BD.

The master I looked at was not Advent Children but rather "The Spirits Within". It is not on the schedule as far as I know, but I was giving some advanced notice of masters that caught my attention as being exceptional. FF TSW was not particulary great in standard definition because Square Enix added noise to make it look less animated. In HD however, the effect worked and I think the results will speak for themselves. I am not a fan of adding noise, but occasionally it seems okay.

My PAL disc of tSW looks great. In some respects better than the IMAX print I saw of it. The 1080 version should look fabulous.

I'll definately purchase Dracula. I have yet to see a high def transfer that isn't an improvement over DVD, in fact its getting hard to watch DVD at this point.

Paidgeek,

I read that Stomp The Yard will be the first Sony disc to have Dolby TrueHD. Is this true, and is it going to have LPCM and TrueHD or just TrueHD. I don't know if you can disclose this but thanks in advance.

paidgeek,

Just saw this come up in the main movies area:

Quote:
THE INSIDER - Sony Pictures Home Entertainment Newsletter' March edition and it has an interesting little Q&A that includes the following:

Quote:Q. Are Blu-ray discs region encoded?
A. All Sony Pictures European Blu-ray Discs will be region ABC (all region). This means that you can watch them on any Blu-ray player, whether they are new release or catalogue titles.
I mentioned this to a European friend and the first thing he said was "Guess this means they want us to buy a US PS3". Will SPE US be doing the same?

And to continue on that, when is Sony going to implement this? The UK releases of Click and RV are regionally coded.

The online information should be correct if it references the newer titles (March and onward) which now have the correct region code information. We do not list the region code in the press releases because these announcements only happen in the markets where the advertised disc will play.

Sorry we can't be of more help on this title. We will be happy to author it for Universal on BD though...
Might be from March onwards?

It will have both, 16/48 LPCM and 20/48 DD THD.

Paidgeek,

Any word on the special features being subtitled in English instead of just Korean/Thai on Sony Blu-Ray titles shortly in the future?

I really would had liked to see the special features subtitled on 'Casino Royale'. :-/

Ok, thanks

Do you know if the new S300 player will have the 1.1 profile?
Are studios working on PiP and other 1.1 funtions, or are they waiting for it to be finalized?(is it still June-July?)
What is your view on BD-J vs HDi? Can you give an exampel of something that HDi won´t be able to do, or something BD-J simply would do better?

I really appreciate your answers, interactivity is importent to the format even if it´s not something that I´m personally excited about

Thanks for the update on this title paidgeek. You can count on me for a sale.

As far as the master being soft, that doesn't surprise me. I've always thought parts of this movie looked a bit on the soft side. Still, if great care has been taken on the transfer and it accurately represents the best master SPE has available, then that is all we can ask of you and your team.

I'm really looking forward to this release...

Thanks for the response. I assume that you guys are including both so people without PS3 can still get lossless audio, and will continue to do so when necessary until the amount of THD enabled players becomes the vast majority. Once LPCM is left behind, will you guys make the move to 24/48 THD?

Correct on all counts, but 24/48 versus 20/48 is not decided.

Same here. Bram Stoker's Dracula was my first laserdisc purchase. Seeing that film in widescreen in that format was my introduction to being into home theater. I had the same kind of feel when I bought the DVD release when it first came out. I want to experience that again with the HD version as well.
