The Australian version is considered to be the best overall release.

You should probably go with that one. Even if you could get one of the first Lionsgate releases there are chances the disc will no longer work. Theres a thread floating around here somewhere about older Lionsgate discs that wont play anymore.

The titles in question that had the highest probably of failure were the very first initial batch of Blu Rays that Lionsgate authored. The Descent came out some time after these other titles so it's unlikely you'll run into problems with the disk. Off the top of my head the problem titles were...

-Lord of War
-Saw
-Devils Rejects
-House of 1000 Corpses
-Saw
-Punisher

I own all but one of these releases and only my copy of Saw suffered from disk failure.

Should probably add American Psycho to that list. My copy mysteriously stopped working not too long ago and had to be replaced.
Fwiw, I have Saw and Lord of War and my copies are still playing fine.

Is that why you listed SAW twice? LOL!

Just thought I'd pass this on. The superior Australian release can be had for only $21 including shipping from JBHIFI!!!

I've waited cuz it always seemed too expensive to import but this is a great deal. Plus if there's anything else you want from down under combine to save shipping. I was maybe looking at Splash since we don't have it in the US. It's region A playable but I'm not sure about the transfer so I may wait on that.

I'm definitely pulling the trigger on Descent though, really anxious to see how it shines compared to my old American blu!

Why? Tons of great stuff comes out in other countries (much of it region-free, and very easy to purchase off international Amazon sites).

Seems kind of silly to limit yourself like that when you don't have to...

is this 5.1 or 5.1 EX?

I want a version that replicates the Dolby Digital EX version that would been heard as such in the theater - essentially I don't want the 7.1 remix.

does anyone have the first Lionsgate release - what's the UPC? or the ASIN number
