The ONLY thing that bugged me was the fight between Stallone and Van Damme at the end. What a wasted effort that was.
[Show spoiler]I was hoping for a knock down drag out fairly equally matched brawl to the death but Stallone just kinda goes in there and kicks his ass...rather easily. Van Damme nails him with that signature jumping spin kick of his and thats the only meaningful offense he offered throughout the entire fight.

Maybe my expectations were way to high but that was one of the biggest selling points for me was seeing the two go at it at the end.

Sly talks about the fight in the Gods of War featurette. All will be explained.

Not unless the movie was remixed from the ground up. The soundmix of this movie had little to no dynamic range, horrible clipping in the upper registers, and a weird lack of bass in the oddest places (the scene with the tank was very whimpy sounding). No amount of 11.1 post processing can fix those fundamental problems in the original mix.

The PQ didn't bother me, on the other hand. Yes, it's grainy as hell but I figured they were going for a gritty, low budget, 80's flick vibe. In that sense, it totally fit. However, I was disturbed by the obvious DNR in a few night scenes (the first scene between Stallone and Willis, for example) which I expect to make its way to the BD.

Not me. I loved the movie but the Statham vs Adkins and Stallone vs Van Damme fights were underwhelming.

YES! Thank you!

I have heard so many people singing the praises of this film, and it was very good. But had a lot of fundamental shortcomings.

The first film had the great gun-battle at the end with awesome moves (like Stallone flipping over Austin's head) - granted, it was poorly edited in the theatrical cut which was somewhat addressed in the Director's Cut. The second film had the best fight AT THE BEGINNING! You do not build up a movie with a great fight in order to have a mediocre battle at the end.

Not only were the fights above too short and not epic enough, but the gun battle was too concerned with having multiple action stars in the same frame rather than seeing the actual action. It was poorly directed/framed at the end.

However, the sense of humor that was missing in the first one was so very awesome in this one. I hope they have Wesley Snipes as a bad guy in the next one, with Rutger Hauer in a cameo as the person behind the plots of the first two - he can even say "All these action stars lost... like tears in rain... time to die."

Does anyone know if a double pack BD is being released for The Expandables?

I haven't seen either film. I hope they come with UV digital copies.

Sounds good, but shame there is no epic Inferno style making-of this time!

I see we in the UK will be missing out on these 2 featurettes the US disc contains:

- "Big Guns, Bigger Heroes: The 1980's and the Rise of the Action Film" featurette
- "Guns for Hire: The Real Expendables" featurette

EPIC movie! Will be picking up the Canadian steelbook from FS, that's if BB doesn't get one. Was there any movie released as 9.1? Looks like they just skipped it all together.

Officially, Red Tails was released 11.1 in cinemas, using Auro 3D.

2L's Pure Audio Blu-ray Titled Souvenir was the first to release in Auro 3D 9.1

You should read what they originally wanted to do. You would have walked out.

This is coming out so soon after the theatrical release. Well, compared to Dredd, which is coming out at the a** end of January, it's coming out relatively soon. Knowing Lionsgate, they'll probably come up with an extended version after the theatrical release so as much as I want to buy this as soon as it comes out I'm gonna wait for the inevitable Director's Cut.

In this case, it's up to Sly if there's an extended cut. Has he ever mentioned working on an extended cut of this?
