Oh, the things you're reduced to!!

Well, I think humour's a very subjective thing, so the fact it didn't make me laugh doesn't mean it won't work for you, obviously. For me this flick never works out even for itself what it's trying to be, so it's all muddled and pretty hollow: Depp just turns his Unaccountably Quirky autopilot up to 11 and sleepwalks through the rest, and the script fairly reeks of several "Oh no, forget all that, I know what we should do!" moments. But ... YMMV.

Atexp80 - don't buy Dark Shadows. I'm a Burton fan as well, but this is a mess that should've been stopped. There are a couple of funny moments in it - 2 or 3 - but the movie doesn't work as a whole and has no rewatch value in it.

My 2 cents.

A few arrivals yestere'en:

The Girl Who ... (Extended Editions)
Glengarry Glen Ross (Steelbook)
E.T. (Steelbook)

The Girl ... set I bought completely on spec — these are the Swedish originals, obviously. Never seen them, never read the books. I hope they scrub up to all I've heard.

The Glengarry Glen Ross I bought on the strength of the film, though it was probably a waste of money. The steelbook itself is pretty unimpressive (cheap printing on the outside, bare steel within), and the set is the previous 2-disc DVD release (which I already have, and was happy with) plus a BD with the film in HD. Ah well, it was an impulse buy, and though I've had plenty of those turn out badly it looks at this stage like I'm never going to learn not to indulge them.

The E.T. I haven't opened yet, and I'm unsure what to do with it. I had it on pre-order, as a kind of placeholder until I found out how expensive the digibook would be and whether I wanted it or not, and then when I went to cancel the steelbook order I was told it had already gone into packing (a week before the release date) and couldn't be cancelled. So Amazon — trying to be helpful, bless 'em — actually completely refunded my money on the purchase, and told me to refuse delivery when it turned up and send it back. Only, of course, I didn't get to refuse it — it just got stuffed in my letterbox, severely damaging the packaging (but not the steelbook). And Oz Post has just told me that if I want to send it back, I'll have to repackage it and pay for the postage myself, which is going to be more than the purchase + postage price in the first place.

What should I do? I feel I should be straight with Amazon — do I just tell them to charge me for it all over again, and try to resell it here? I haven't opened the shrinkwrap on it, so I can't really tell if I like it enough to keep it rather than buy the digibook.

Ah, dilemmas!

Picked up U.S. Marshalls and Twilight Zone the Movie for $8 each at Kmart. Some good titles still there in the $8 stand. Has anybody seen Gods and Generals? I love civil war movies and for a four hour film it's good for the price but i would rather hear from someone who knows it than blind buy.
Cheers,
Carcuss

Bought: Went to JB. Snagged the Apollo 13 SteelBook as well as a title for my brother in the 2 for $30. Also picked up Eagle Eye and Arachnophobia in the 2 for $20. First time Arachnophobia's been in stock at my local so I'm hoping it's the corrected disc. They never had it on release so I hope they got the corrected one. It'll be pretty obvious when I give it a spin!

Picked this up from BigW this morning for $22.86. Overall, very happy with this set.

I watched the movie and the transfer is excellent, esp the outdoor forest scenes!!!. It's so good to have the original version too. Such a fantastic release for one of my favourite movies of all time. Well done Universal!!. The digibook was a great read too.

ALMOST ordered Superman set from the UK.. then realised its missing 3 discs, so I ordered the 8 disc version instead... $NZ40 roughly... half the price of it in NZ.

Unfortunately there was no staff, the layby lady was covering both counters with 3 people queued to get her help, I decided to go back tonight or tomorrow

My BigW didn't have them on display, but they had them out the back. No drama's though when I asked if they had it, the person behind went out the back and got it. Despite being on sale from Thursday, it scanned at the $22.86 price.

I'd get in quick though, as stock is limited for the boxset apprantely and its the lowest price anywhere, so I'm sure it will sell fast.

Grrr... received my ET SteelBook. Only took 8 days from Amazon UK. Unfortunately despite being in one of Amazon's SteelBook boxes it had been mauled:

[Show spoiler]

So, guess I'll be in touch with Amazon! Not having a good day between this and Arachnophobia.

Well that's one problem solved - Amazon UK are shipping a replacement ET steel free of charge! Fingers crossed for a safe arrival.

Watched: Finished off Stargate Atlantis Season 2.

Now: To hell with Bond, I've got 15 films left in 24 days so that's easy to do. Can't wait any longer... The Terminator's going on!
