They don't need Kenny Baker or Anthony Daniels to return to the suits. Other actors have nailed C-3PO's mannerisms fine.

He'll just need to come in for voice work. Which he's already doing with the Clone Wars anyway.

Back when he pitched the idea, it wasn't a simple task for him to get it made; no one had any faith in it, and he made the famous bet with Spielberg that Close Encounters would end up making more money than his own film.

He's such an influential director that came up with such an original idea, and it has influenced nearly every film-maker since then. I can't understand why people really do give Lucas such a hard time.

That's not going to happen for a variety of reasons. 1. The contract. 2. Lucasfilm still exists. 3. His huge interest in Disney stock.

It's pretty simple. If they can guarantee me some stuff, I'll be OK with it. Here goes:

Bring back Hamil, Ford, and Fisher to play their older selves.

Don't kiddy it up too badly. Keep it cool.

Don't get the wrong people to play any new characters. Don't just find the two hottest Disney teens or something. Please use professional actors and actresses.

Don't let some hack direct the films. No Brett Ratner. No Mike Bay.

Don't let some veteran film maker take the reigns and inject too much of their style into the film. For example, keep Terence Malick out of it or we'll have the first ball-numbingly boring Star Wars film ever made.

Please no cgi festivals. Use it to enhance, not to cover everything.

Oh, and get some good writer working on it. Don't throw four or five writers on it or you'll have a mix mash of crap.

Thanks, and good luck.

Yes, they were a complete and utter mess. But that's only because Lucas sensed that there was great demand for more, and he wrote them in kind of a rush - the elements couldn't really fit together because the original trilogy wasn't designed to go any further.

But his direction shouldn't be called into debate - he is, and always will be, a great director.

I certainly wasn't expecting to read this when I went online today!

It's clearly the end of an era.

Everything changes, or as Shmi Skywaker put it so eloquently:

You can't stop the change, anymore than you can stop the suns from setting.

I already have the Star Wars Saga on Blu-ray, and am very happy with it, so anything else could be a nice bonus.

I bet Steven Spielberg is going to direct episode 7, as he's always wanted to direct a Star Wars episode, and now it's his turn, since his long term producer Kathleen Kennedy is the president of Lucasfilm, I think chances are very favorable for him!
I am interested, as I think he would be VERY respectful to Star Wars.

I didn't think of that...

But maybe we won't see a Disney logo. One literally has to wait until after the credits of Avengers to see that it's Disney. And as for Pulp Fiction, well you've simply gotta know that Disney has their hand in every cookie jar.

I ASSUME Episode 7 will start with a Lucasfilm logo, then go into the movie, with Distributed by Disney after the credits, just like Avengers. I think Disney doesn't want to turn certain people away from certain movies by slapping their name on it.

I don't understand how any of the Lucas haters can be against this. Didn't Avengers come out and practically the entire nerd fan base annointed it the "GREATEST MOVIE EVAR!!!*&*&!!"

I am not a Lucas Hater but I don't care for his attempts to write scripts by himself with the stilted dialogue and baffling plots. This easily makes Episode 2 my least favorite of the series. Having said that, I am cautiously optimistic that other people more qualified to write good scripts and arrange coherent plots will now have a chance to put thier take on Star Wars and if it's half as good as the Marvel movies have been, I'll be happy.

Also, you know Disney will release every unaltered original trilogy movie in deluxe packaging and that alone will make this move worthwhile.

Hopefully they will be restored to the PG and AQ quaility level of the Disney animated movies, and of course they will charge something like $29.99 a pop and I will be the first one in line handing over my money.

Re: Star Wars I-VI. Remember... Fox still owns distribution rights. So that's not likely to change unless Disney can make them an offer they can't refuse. So the talk of Diamond Editions for the Original and Prequel films isn't likely to happen. We'll see new releases, but likely still via Fox.

I don't think anyone gives a crap who has the video rights as long as the unmolested OT is released on BD.

There would never have been "Diamond Edition" Star Wars in any case. I'm pretty sure Disney's reserved that for the animated classics. I don't think "The Vault" is often used for non-Walt Disney Pictures features, either. Disney owns or distributes a heck of a lot of content; most of it doesn't end up Vaulted.

We'll eventually see the theatrical cuts restored, though. Disney may have to deal with Fox for distribution, but they'll certainly get them out there.

And they'll be released eventually. As Lucas has said for years now. They're just not a priority. Rightly so.

Where has he said that? I've always seen it said he didn't intend to release them, because the newer versions were definitive and the way he'd always intended to make them.

He said it once again when the Complete Collection was released a while back.

That they're coming eventually. But that they need a lot of work and they're not a priority.

Guess I'll keep that one share of Disney stock I have framed on my wall. I now own Disney, Pixar, Marvel & Star Wars.
