Well, he didn't invent the idea of the lightsaber either, but now no one else can use one.

That's big companies for ya. Donkey in Shrek was meant to be Eeyore from the classic book Winnie the Pooh. Disney didn't allow this, claiming they owned the character. So they own something that existed well before their company did, and will soon own droids and lightsabers too.

I would like to suggest if any of you have not...check out the Clone Wars TV series...

Dave Filoni and the writers have done a great job getting at the core of what is fun about Star Wars. He would be perfect for the new films...

I have been wanting to get into the clone wars for a long time but I don't have the money for the dvd's right now and I don't have cable. Is there a way to stream it from the first episode and in order? I hate watching shows out of order.

I haven't picked up Season 4 of Clone Wars yet, but this news has me so excited that I'm going to pick it up tomorrow and finish up the Season 3 episodes, which for some reason or another I hadn't yet finished.

But can I watch them all the way from the beginning and in order? A lot of those streaming sites only have the most recent episodes. I wouldn't want to jump in the middle.

He would make a terrible Star Wars film in my opinion. The pace of his films vs. the original trilogy is almost at opposite ends of the scale. Both work in the films they're in, but are not compatible.

Now, I'm only familiar with his popular films too, but he seems a very (and very good) R-rated (MPAA) director to me. Is Star Wars PG, or PG13+? Either way, I don't think he could handle the family audience well.

I've never shown my kids a Ridley Scott film.
Agreed. Ridley would be a terrible choice for Star Wars. Besides...he needs to complete his work on the Prometheus trilogy

I actually disagree with handing it over to a fan, I mean the fanbase is so divided over every little thing, if they pick a fan who LIKES or even PREFERS the PT, you will never hear the end of it. Likewise if they pick a fan who HATES the PT and prefers the UOT again more doom and gloom. It needs to be a talented person with no emotional... sorry I couldn't finish that last sentence who on Earth doesn't have an emotional connection to Star Wars this is a mess no matter how you look at it...

To DarkDune, I will check it out then thanks for the links.

Also, Dave Filoni has proven over 4 seasons now that he can successfully tell many, MANY Star Wars stories over years at a time. What more could Disney/Lucasfilm want?!?! He even made Jar Jar worth watching!

Edit: Not all the shows are perfect, but there are more than enough that are really, really good, and tell interesting stories about our favorite Star Wars characters!

I think, in all honesty, it needs to be a director with no experience with this sort of thing, who knows he has the weight of the whole world on his shoulders so he feels the immense pressure Lucas must have felt back in '76

I like the idea, but something tells me over 4 billion is not banking on that.

Steven Spielberg or Peter Jackson could both direct a hell of a Star Wars flick.

I wasn't alive back then but I'm pretty sure he didn't have the weight of the whole world back in 1976 considering that nobody knew it was coming. Maybe I'm wrong?

I agree, agree, agree, agree! I love the Clone Wars series - and I love just as much watching all the extras w/ Dave's explanations, insights etc on the characters! I hope even if he isn't picked to direct that he has major involvement w/ the films.

Yeah, but movies were good back then, and didn't sell at all if they weren't.

No genre fans, no strait-to-video, no "let's watch it 'cause it's bad".

Weight of the World.
