IMHO, the problem with that series is that it is mainly focused on one character. Harrison Ford is synonomous with the role. At this point I doubt Ford will do another one. If they were going to do it they should have done it within a year or two of the last one. Ford is past the prime for another go around and I don't know if audiences are going to be able to accept anyone else is the role in the near future. I think it is in Disney's best interest to let this franchise sit another decade or so and they maybe reboot it.

Star Wars has the advantage of having a vast universe and many characters to create a story around. Other than the three central characters that survived the OT they don't have an issue of the audience being fixated on a particular actor for a role. And if one possibilty is to pick up 20 years after the OT then they might be better off recasting those characters if they are a significant part of new films.

No. Simply put, its not a true Star Wars film without the wipes. The same can be said about the opening crawl.

I can assure you that with as rabid a fanbase as Star Wars has, if they make any minor changes to even the most basic details of the franchise there will be no end to the noise.

Things they can not change are the opening crawl, the opening text, the main theme, the credits at the end, the classic wipes, the color of the light sabers, or even adding a single cross promotional product placement within will all be riot causing.

No, dude. Disney owns the house and everything in it. They didn't just buy a house, they bought everything inside of that house. Disney owns Star Wars now.

However they don't own "The House", as Lucas gets to keep the massive Skywalker Ranch.

So he'll likely also make a bundle renting the facilities to Disney unless Lucasfilm and Others moves out to another location.

Yeah, I just meant that they didn't just go after the rights to SW - they went after all of Lucasfilm so they could get those rights, and own the other properties that is contained within that company. They bought the house to own what was inside it, and own the rights because they own the house...if that makes sense.

To be fair, Alien Resurrection as we know it IS NOT the story Joss Whedon wrote. Fox took his original script and changed it but still gave him credit. So when he defends his script, he means the original script that we never got to see. That being said, he will be too busy with Marvel projects, so I doubt he'd direct Star Wars.

Disney doesn't need to go to Marin County to make a movie. They've been making them on Buena Vista for several decades now.

To be honest, I don't know if they'd be that bothered since they'd be raking in a ton of money anyway. Having Spielburg could work in their favour and give them even more money, since A) he'll make a great trilogy, B) the critics are more likely to praise it, thus encouraging those who didn't like the prequels to go and see it.

Not true at all. Pretty much everything on screen in Alien: Resurrection is 99% Whedon. They changed a few minor things like 1 character's name.

He constantly claims they butchered his script. Which is balderdash. He's just an awful writer, as his comic book work screams loud and clear.

Quote:
Whedon: "It wasn't a question of doing everything differently...it was mostly a matter of doing everything wrong...They did everything wrong that they could possibly do...it wasn’t so much that they’d changed the script; it’s that they just executed it in such a ghastly fashion as to render it almost unwatchable."
Which makes no sense. They somehow didn't do much of anything different from the script, just somehow did it wrong. Guy should be a politician.

If you can do it, track down the script... it's floating around online. It's almost word for word for the final film. Even the atrocious dialogue.

That wasn't my point. Unless they're going to move everything off his property... they'll be paying him to rent the facilities.

Who says they're going to use his facilities? I'd look for "The Ranch" to be a production house and production space for hire. Skywalker Sound's facilities will remain a premium locale, but why assume Disney would need to use the Ranch at all? In fact, as much as it might suck for the employees, positions and spaces are likely to be consolidated. That's what happens in a merger.

Again... you don't understand what I'm saying. Everything that the company is... is housed there.

And again, it's not really a merger. Just like with Marvel... Disney isn't going to change how things currently operate.

Did you see Marvel's offices in New York close up and move to California or Florida? No. Not likely to differ here either.

Yeah, unless Disney wants to gut the house of all the equipment, they would probably be better served just renting the facility. That would probably include a percentage, if not all, the workers that are "captured" during a buyout...and all the in-place equipment.

Considering Whedon has next to zero visual flair and he can't bother to hire a cinematographer who can shoot an action film, I'd prefer they keep him as far away as possible.

Too late, Skywalker Vineyards already produces wine.

I think Speliberg would be a good (safe) choice for Episode VII. Let him set the tone and then have another director pick up the next episode and so on.
