Hah, trivia time!
All this brainstorming on real looking imagery and such and given the fact I’m about to cruise on over to Catalina today, has caused certain electrical synapses in my brain to fire. < Yup, there are clues in that sentence.

Question – What director in what picture wanted a more real look and originally desired to shoot the film using a 60 frame/second widescreen process but, the producers wouldn’t go for it, heck they even tried to abort the picture and collect on the insurance instead.

Put on your mind-expanding headsets and tell me the answer.

Any idea what's up with these titles?
You mean as first predicted here on our forum…………

In regards to your query, the last schedule that I was privy to (which runs about three months into the future as we speak) does not show that title on the list. Alas, this timeline decision is up to the marketing gurus. If I were them, I would attempt to dovetail it with either the peak box office of Hancock or its waning theatrical interest on the down slope to take advantage of the *Will Smith effect* carryover into home theaters.

In regards to Sin City, I’m clueless.

IMHO the focus has been 'good enough' since the beginning.

No, I don’t.
Personally, I’m just ecstatic that they are releasing Sand Pebbles around D-Day because Steve McQueen was one of my motorcycle racing he-roes (On Any Sunday) and the fact that the audio restoration needed (and performed by a professional in Santa Monica) was indeed monumental.
I think Great Escape would be an even better choice, but that's me

I asked this in Bill Hunts Thread last week but I think he has been really busy. Can you answer?

Netflix CFO Barry McCarthy said:

He expects to see about 1,300 to 1,500 Blu-ray releases by the end of the year, including 300 new titles, and the remaining, catalog.
http://www.homemediamagazine.com/new...ticle_ID=12196

The first 2 months of this year we had only 55 releases. To get that many releases there would have to have be an average of at least 30 titles a week. Is he way over estimating or should we really expect to see that many titles released on Blu-ray this year?

Love that movie! Didn't they shoot the in-mind segments in 70mm vs 35mm for the rest of the film? Can't wait to see it on Blu.

Let me take a wild guess and say some krazy guy like Howard Hughes would go for something like that.

Yeah, everything was supposed to go wider and sharper in the VR sequences going from 35mm to 70mm, with surround sound kicking in from the extra audio tracks on the 70mm to boot.

I wonder if they'd bother going back and properly restoring it for Blu-ray to reproduce that effect? The 35mm parts with 2.0 sound would be pretty bland, and then BOOM! VR right in the nuts with 7.1 PCM.

Penton, regarding New Line and WB...

Although it sucks that 75% will have to get new jobs... I am far more concerned about the other deals going on.
Will the Hobbit be made? Will Peter Jackson still be in charge of it? Will the Tolkien estate let WB take charge of this? Will New Line still put their name on things or will it all become WB? Will WB take over video production for BD of New Line titles? If so, will WB upgrade their BD quality, specifically their sound?
More importantly, does WB listen to people when we tell them we want better sound???

Any idea if we will see lossless from WB?

He raced motocross among other disciplines.
See 3:20 on………………………….

Or did you mean Harvey Mushman? (check out 3:30 at Elsinore)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=agOFt3kJ1HY

Also, check out 6:20 where he’s commenting after the race.
His bench racing conversation with some Checkers MC members after the event never did make it to the DVD edition, nor the theatrical presentation if in fact my recollection is correct.
And of course, there’s also a grinning dude there….. by the name of Malcolm.

Stupid question, but I've seen this discussed all over, including just now in this thread, and I've tried to find this out with no luck, but...

What exactly does "yield rate" mean with respect to Blu-Ray Discs?

In other words, if the yield rate is 80%, what does that mean?

I have been assuming that is how many discs are manufactured without flaws. So an 80% yield rate would mean 20% end up getting junked.

But I've never actually seen this stated, just endless arguments about what the current yield rate percentage for BD-50 is vs. other discs, who said what when, etc.

Thanks.

Come to think of it.
The stuntman (and 4 time ISDT gold medalist) that did do “The Jump”, namely Bud Ekins passed away last year with “The Jump” being shown during the 80th Annual Academy Awards In Memoriam videoclip.
