Yeah, this was not the year the ACC wanted to show up lame. They have already been regarded as the new "Big East", and now they have the record to validate it. In 12 years, the ACC will have either become a powerhouse or be shut out of the new deal like the Big East was this year.

Honestly with Miami and Vtech on hiatus and without the seemingly rabid fan bases of years past that might have forced change. NC rocked by scandal when they seemed to be on the rise a few years ago, NC State vanished after Rivers left when they seemed to be headed up, I lay blame on the ACC fan bases. I mean look at the top conferences those fan bases go nuts until its done right and force change, that seems to never happen in the ACC (UM fans tried for awhile, but now they seem to have adopted the resigned feelings most ACC schools have) and most teams seem just fine with the status quo.

VT's motto has always been "have fans, will travel" which is why we get selected for better bowls than our record would dictate. The Saturday's after Thanksgiving are always the toughest since students are still technically on break and they have to go back to school early to watch the game. Add to that the chilly/windy weather, and the fact that stadium was full is proof the fans are still active. That is why the program is attractive to the SEC.

The problem is that we travel to other schools who don't have the same rabid fan base and still we lose. I watch the away games on TV, and you can hear our fans screaming "Let's Go Hokies!" over the home crowd. And yet we still manage to lose. The fans support the team, but there have to be wins to back up the effort. You can't go 6-6 and expect the fans to keep showing up.

VT has been avoiding change by hiding behind a winning record. Now that shield is gone, change is going to happen.

Would the Sugar Bowl really select Florida over Alabama in the event that Alabama loses to Georgia?

I know Alabama would be a two loss team, but it's not like the BCS bowls always pick the "best" team.

I get the idea everyone just assumes that Alabama will beat Georgia and this situation won't happen.

I think everyone is betting on it being Bama vs ND for the Championship as it should be 1 vs 2 for Championship, truthfully I wouldn't mind seeing Florida in Sugar Bowl.

And if im correct (please correct me if im wrong) but the championship doesn't count against your conference totals for BCS games. So we could theoretically see 3 SEC teams if that's the case.

The title game does count against the conference limit. The only way for a conference to get 3 teams in the BCS is if 2 at-large teams from a conference are playing in the national title game. That clearly won't happen this year with Notre Dame #1 in the BCS so the SEC will only get 2 teams in the BCS.

One thing the BCS has to fear is that they might have to take Kent State. Right now Kent State is ranked #17 and BCS rules dictate that if a non-AQ conference team finishes in the top 16 and ahead of an AQ champion then they automatically get a BCS bowl berth. If Kent State wins Saturday against Northern Illinois (NIU is favored by 6) they will end up ahead of whoever wins the Big East and will need to move up 1 spot in the final rankings, which would likely happen if Wisconsin beats Nebraska, Georgia Tech beats Florida State, TCU beats Oklahoma, or Stanford beats UCLA. If Kent State loses it's possible Northern Illinois or Boise State could move into the top 16, but they'd need to move past several teams as Boise is currently ranked #20 and Northern Illinois #21.

This is what I don't understand. Kent State faced two AQ teams this year. They lost to 2-10 Kentucky and beat 9-2 Rutgers. Rutgers didn't beat a ranked team this year, and didn't play an AQ school outside of their conference (which isn't even AQ next year). Why are they even a point of discussion?

On the radio today they were talking about how bad the ACC title game is. Upper bowl tickets are going for about $3. It's so low that in some cases you'd spend more on transaction fees that for the actual ticket.

I blame this on the Big East still being AQ.

Southern Miss has fired coach Ellis Johnson after one season. Johnson's team went 0-12 this year after going 12-2 last year with coach Larry Fedora, who left to become the North Carolina coach. Southern Miss had 18 straight winning seasons prior to this year and will owe Johnson $2.1 million over the next three years.

Kentucky has reportedly hired Florida State defensive coordinator Mark Stoops as their head coach according to Matt Jones of Kentucky Sports Radio. The hiring will reportedly be announced this afternoon.

That whole conference was laughably bad this season, and now capped off by Miami's self-imposed ban. For the sake of ticket sales, at least the rivalry would have provided a little spark.

There are a lot of rumblings that O'Brien is looking to the NFL. If he does indeed leave Penn State, they are going to lose Hackenberg and Breneman out of their upcoming recruiting class. That would be a huge loss as both are looking to be future studs in college football.

Yeah we might be losing Jimbo Fisher to. He is high on TN list of coach's right now. As an FSU fan this very bad new's, it look's like we will be back in that rebuilding stage. I'm pretty sure Jimbo will take the job if offered.

I doubt Stoops would leave FSU for a dead-end gig at Kentucky, especially with a BCS bowl game birth likely this year as well as next. He definitely is a great pick for the job as he completely rebuilt one of the nation's worst defenses in 2009 into a top-10 group over the last 2 seasons.
