"Given that the forthcoming Sequel Trilogy will take place after the fall of the Galactic Empire, what historical and political themes are you going to be looking for in these films?

I’m going to look for the difference between an ideal –– what the Alliance thinks it’s going to make when it recreates the Republic –– and the very different reality that results. I think we’ll see some of that reacting to the previous generation’s problems: people treating the world and the generation after the triumph over Palpatine as if they’re still fighting a war against the Empire. Some of the seeds of conflict and drama will be based on how they’re not ready for the problems and, probably, the return of the Dark Side in unexpected ways."

I'm guessing it's going to be the latter -- I mean, come on, they've had a pretty easy ride at Lucasfilm simply as "yes men" -- but it doesn't matter because as long as they're gone, that's all I care about.

To be fair to him, though, Star Wars was an industry first for all digital production, which he kind of spear-headed, so not everything he did was pure carnage.

That's a pretty big slip-up and not something that just can't be read into - he says that he's done 9 films with Vaughn altogether (he must mean some in a producing capacity) and then claims that he'll probably get a background role in Star Wars because of this. So, that seems pretty certain that Vaughn will be handling at least one of the films, then.

Do people want one director to helm all three, or three individual directors to do one each? I'm caught between the two situations.

Matthew Vaughn never really denied the rumors, and Mark Millar's comment could just be damage control. He's the right age for "someone who grew up with Star Wars".

I love Stardust, which reminds me of Willow. Not a fan of the X-Men universe but he did fine.

I am totally ok with Matthew Vaughn taking on the project. I am totally ok with Favreau hopping on the train. I am ok with one director doing one film and another taking on the next.

I think if Lucas wanted to show true redemption in Vader, he should've shown an actual internal struggle of good and evil going on inside of him the whole time. We should've seen a truly tormented Vader throughout the entire saga. That would've made him a much more sypmathetic character and the whole redemption story arc more believable. (Look at Gollum's struggle in LOTR). However I think he had already done so many heinous acts, with no sign of remorse, that he was too far gone to be shown as someone who would be redeemable.

Thats reasonable - and yes, Vader was responmsible for the deaths of millions. I almost view his change as more a benefit to Luke who at least has some closure now to his fathers fate and death. He knows that Anakin went to his grave being on the good side. Its worth something. It doesnt erase the blood on his hands but then again it is Palpatine/Sidous who really started this by driving Anakin towards the Dark side. Palpatine knew exactly how vulnerable Anakin was and he used the "saving lives" angle to get Anakin to flip over to the Dark side. Its the same thing as a jilted lover being succeptible on the rebound or a depressed person being very vulnerable to a nervous breakdown - it doesnt take much to push them over the limit and anyone doing so is taking advantage of that person in a cruel way.

Its Palpatines fault moreso than Anakin, IMO.

I've had my fill of Palpatine, Yoda, and Anakin to be honest. Wouldn't mind seeing Luke's story continue, but I'm hoping for the sci fi version of Unforgiven for Episode VII... maybe my expectations are off.

I also agree with your previous post...it's Star Wars and Disney! IMO, a great combination! The possibilities are endless, and I can't wait, as one by one, they are revealed.

Actually spoke to some people who are on the same course as me at University today, and they were less than impressed with Disney continuing this saga - as far as I could tell, that was mainly because they thought Disney would create too much of a kiddy world.

Explaining to them that Star Wars is quite childish in its sense of wonderment and adventure anyway, and that Marvel is owned by Disney and their films haven't changed for the worse, didn't do the trick and they still hate the idea, apparently. Some people really do have such strong positions on SW that they won't listen to what anyone else says.

Actually more so now, as my boy(who just turned 2 on Monday), and news of another "bun in the oven" on Thanksgiving Day will now get to experience the Star Wars saga as it gets released.

Disney makes family entertainment, Star Wars is family entertainment and always has been. Leonard Maltin wrote that when Star Wars hit in 1977, heads spun at the Disney lot, because not only was Star Wars a film the studio could have made (Lucas himself even referred to it as a "Disney film", though not in a admiring way), the pressing issue was that a film such as Star Wars was the sort of thing the studio *should* have been making. The studio had become lazy and complacent.

So the studio tried several attempts to make their own "Star Wars", and more "grown up" features, but these failed at the box office, and one of the greatest issues was the Disney brand name. Because of the complacency, and knowing they had a built in family audience that would show up for damn near anything, the studio had lost it's way in the live action division and had become lazy, and bereft of ambition. This is where The Black Hole, Tron, Dragonslayer, Return to Oz, and The Black Cauldron came from, to say nothing of a short-lived run of more adult-oriented films, such as Never Cry Wolf, Tex, Something Wicked This Way Comes, The Watcher in the Woods, and The Journey of Natty Gann. Other than Tex, all of these disappointed at the box office. And so, the "Touchstone" label was born under Eisner and Katzenberg, so the movies would not have the Disney label on them, so teenagers would actually give the films a shot.

Corey Feldman Eyes the Role of Han Solo's Son in Star Wars: Episode VII

Star Wars: Episode VII is the sequel of the century. Despite three unpopular prequels, fans have regained their love and enthusiasm for George Lucas' sci-fi fantasy franchise. All of that goodwill was recently resurrected by Walt Disney Pictures, who are now promising a new film every two years, indefinitely, starting in 2015.

Fans aren't the only ones excited about the prospect of more Star Wars movies. A lot of actors are throwing their hat into the ring, wishing for a role in this highly coveted space adventure. Robert Pattinson recently came forward, saying he'd play Jar Jar Binks if it meant being a part of this sprawling universe. Now, Lost Boys actor Corey Feldman, who got his start working for Steven Spielberg in such classics as Gremlins and The Goonies, wants a piece of the action.


"More than anything, I want a part in that new Star Wars franchise."


When asked if there was a particular role he'd like to take on, he said he is lobbying for a role as Han Solo's son, due to his resemblance to actor Harrison Ford.


"I think that is a great idea. No one knows what they have in mind yet, or what they have in store for us...But what I would like to see in the development of those next three movies is that they bring back all of the original characters, as they are still alive. And you can make them the older generation. Then, whether its their kids, or a bunch of new young soldiers, or Jedis, or warriors...Whatever it is, I would certainly like to be a part of that new young brigade that they are going to bring forward.

I think Harrison Ford's son is a really great idea, actually. Fans have always said that I would make a great Indiana Jones, a great Young Indiana Jones. We look very similar, we have the same type of bravado. The same character persona with the whole Edgar Frog thing. It is a good fit."


Is Corey Feldman out of his mind? He doesn't think so.


"I do believe that belief is the most powerful thing we have in this world. So, if we believe in something enough. And we have faith, we can make it a reality. That is basically the basis of my entire career and my entire life. I am going to really send a lot of positive energy to...Here, these are the three topics at hand...Let's get Corey in the new Star Wars movie, lets get Corey back as Donatello in Ninja Turtles with Michael Bay, and lets get Corey back to reprise his role as Tommy Jarvis, to make the fan anticipated sequel, above all, Friday the 13th Part XIII: Jason Vs. Jarvis in 3D. That is what I'm pitching."


It's clear that everyone would like a piece of the action. Though, Corey claims he knows one person not excited to return in Star Wars: Episode VII.


"I'll tell you who doesn't want to be a part of that cast. I can pretty much guarantee that Anthony Daniels doesn't want a part in it. "I'm 90 years old now, I don't want to walk around in a robot suit anymore. I'm done with that!"
