Can you think of one movie where someone didn't find something to criticize? I can't think of one, outside of Chuck Jones' One Froggy Evening.

No freaking way a frog survives for that long, locked in metal box and buried among brick and mortar!

I understand we all don't think alike, and I'm very thankful for that!
It just seems SW is way over the top. Even now, every potential move Disney might make is being picked apart. I've always said you'll never come across a more entitled fan than the SW fan. I never understood it.
I guess I'll enjoy being in the minority and appreciating all 6(at least) films for what they were when I saw them, and what they continue to be: highly enjoyable films.
But that's just me.

Star Wars IS over the top with the fanbase. So is LOTR, Star Trek and just about any other popular movie or book series. However, Star Wars has suffered the most changes and edits along the way so its a special test case.

I like your attitude towards it and I often say the same thing.........until something pisses me off then Ill be right here at blu-ray.com spewing my crap.

Doesn't Anthony Daniels voice C-3PO on The Clone Wars? Or was that just the animated film?

Yes he does. That's why I said I doubt he's going to pass if called back. Even if its not him in the actual suit.

"As Lucasfilm embarks on a new future filled with more Star Wars movies, Rick McCallum, one of the key talents responsible for the past 20 years of Lucasfilm productions,"

David Fincher considering Star Wars?

Quote:
David Fincher might not be the first name that comes to mind when you think of Star Wars (especially with films like Se7en, Zodiac and more in his past), but the director has said the film was very influential on him as a young filmmaker. Plus, you might now know this, but Fincher worked for Industrial Light and Magic as a teen, so this would almost be like going full circle.
http://www.firstshowing.net/2012/jon...t-be-game-too/

Boooooooooooooo!

I enjoy Finchers films, but the last thing I want is a green-tinted, dark Star Wars. It might as well be Nolan applying for the gig.

Here's to hoping he doesn't get the job.

Fincher would guarantee a homerun, that's all he's got as a director!

He's an amazing director but not sure he has what Star Wars wants, as Col. Zombie said. He's too out-there and dark for what this needs to be.

With regards to an Episode VII-IX trilogy continuing the saga I would agree.

Buuuuuuuuut if things ever move a toward a more Bond-like 'long-running franchise with more-or-less independent entries' all bets would be off. Fincher, Nolan, the kid who did Chronicle...anybody would be fair game then.

Empire was, arguably, the darkest of the 6 films, and considered the majority favorite.
I'd like to see some of the edge return via Fincher. Also I'm sure if he did get to helm the film he would alter some things about his directing style.
Perhaps his least fan-favorite film, Alien3, was not too bad for his crack at Sci-Fi. He had to compete with the far superior first two Alien films. Here I think he'd have a little bit of a fresh start.
I give this about a 4% chance of happening, anyway, but I like the idea.

Yes, if the Star Wars fanbase is known for anything it's our willingness to wipe the slate clean and approach each new film with a fresh attitude and open mind.

Any long standing fanbase has to endure this: Spiderman, Batman, Superman, etc.
Star Wars just happens to have been around longer, and more popular.

Matthew Vaughn, David Fincher and Jon Favreau all don't have anything in their schedule right now. All of them qualifies as directors which grew up with Star Wars and are known to be fan.

David Fincher is one of my favorite director, I wouldn't mind if he got the job. He has his own style, but as someone who was inspired by Star Wars to be a film director, I'm sure he's flexible and adapt, while slightly giving that touch of darkness. And he worked with Kathleen Kennedy too.

It's true that he could probably curb his directorial style somewhat but this is Fincher, whose style has been pretty consistent throughout all his films -- hell, he's been at the centre of auteur debate for the past decade because of how similar his films are. He might be able to tone down the darkness, but that might ultimately sacrifice what makes Fincher Fincher. I'd love him to do it -- IMO, all his films have been brilliant (yes, even Alien3) -- but I don't see it happening.

All any director needs to consider when making Star Wars is that they're making Star Wars. They're not making their next film, but the next Star Wars film. All directors have their own colour schemes, tones and styles. So does Star Wars. Sure, the different directors have had their own subtle spins, but there is definitely a formula for a Star Wars film.

That's right, George! They're NOT the director's films, their OUR films. lol....

Okay, Clone Wars is remarkably different. No preliminary scroll, rock music, entirely animated... but this isn't really part of the Saga. If they're doing a film every two years indefinitely there will be plenty of room for alternate styles outside of the saga, just as Clone Wars was. Like an R-rated, Tarantino, Boba Fett film or something...

I think any skilled director (Fincher) that isn't also an ego-maniac (Lucas? lol...) could handle a Star Wars film and make it for the fans, especially if they are one. As for Fincher being dark, there's that one guy who has "read" the treatments for VII-XII and he reckons VII-IX are the darkest ones. Whoever he is... and I bet he's full of it anyway, but it's a nice idea!

Thumbs up

This was great news when Lucas decided to let go of his lock on the story and franchise, allowing others to continue the great saga he started. Thanks George Lucas! He'll still oversee and consult on the films, so he's not totally out of the picture thankfully. It'd kind of like what was posted above, with the Clone Wars series, in that he lets others write and direct, and offers some ideas and approvals on the episodes.

Hopefully Disney, in addition to financing more Star Wars movies, will finance the TV show live action soon.

I'd also like a Star Wars spin off with Starkiller from the "Force Unleashed" games. The (button timed) action scenes/saber fights and CGI cinematics in those games are incredibly cool.
