Zodiac is easily one of Fincher's best films. One of my top 100.

This was posted today over in the Zodiac BD thread by member jmbenesh-

The first time I watched Zodiac, it was about 10 PM when I started it. By the time the film was done, I sat on my living room couch speechless. I was creeped out and had that eerie feeling that someone could be lurking around in my room.

I have watched Zodiac three or four times since, and it never ceases to give me the chills. It's a spellbinding story told perfectly by Fincher. It really is an affecting movie, and if you ask me, it is his masterpiece.

I don't think that's a good idea.

So then RotS is not a Star Wars movie?

Unless you consider this humor- http://nooooooooooooooo.com/

If they are going to be cranking out these movies every couple of years then Fincher should get a crack at one of them at least.

David Fincher eh? Hmmm. I think he'd do a good Empire Strikes Back type movie, that's a bit dark, twisted and suprising. He won't be the full writer anyways, so the lighter moments will be based more on the script, the actor and how they play it. I think he could handle a Star Wars movie. As for basing his credentials on Alien 3.... the blame of that movie wasn't entirely on him. He has a strained relationship with Fox because of that experience and their tinkering...

I know he had arguments with Fox over Alien 3 but he can't be too bad or have that mauch of a bad reputation as Fox (Alien 3 and Fight Club), Warners (Zodiac and Benjamin Button) and Columbia/Sony (Panic Room, Social Network, The Girl...) have all worked with him multiple times. And, as I say, he has been working with Disney on 20,000 Leagues, another family-friendly sci-fi, so they must find him fine to work with and trust that he suit their ways.

Was working...that project has gone nowhere.

The NYTimes quoted him regarding how dismissive he is on studio notes - I'm not sure he would be a good fit for directing anything for the Mouse. They want team players, not divas. Again, I just don't see it.

Honestly, I don't see Fincher in this role either, it just doesn't seem the sort of thing he'd do (but that's not the same as saying it's the sort of thing he couldn't do). But my point was that you suggested his reputation would exclude him from being hired by Disney whereas they hired him in 2010 to work with on a similar film. Whether the film was released or not doesn't matter, the point is that his "reputation" obviously didn't bother Disney.

I hoped I never implied Fincher *couldn't* do it - this is the same guy who directed Sting and Madonna videos, after all. But he's very open about his independence. Sure, when someone like Fincher calls, you take the meeting. You might even pay him to develop his ideas farther. That doesn't mean you ultimately produce the movie -- the culture at Disney is vastly different than the corporate culture at Fox and Warners. I think it has improved dramatically with the ouster of Eisner (who wanted to fire Johnny Depp from POTC after seeing the rushes, and was incredibly antagonistic towards Lasseter and Pixar), otherwise, people like Spielberg and Lucas wouldn't be hanging their hat at Disney these days.

As for Fincher and Zodiac, I kept looking at their theories of the

(And as for "Fincher's never done sci-fi, wonder what it'll look like!" I'm frankly amazed at the amnesia that Alien 3 never happened...)

Haha! I meant in the family film, blockbuster sense - but yes, that was a huge oversight. And I quite like Alien 3 as well.

I agree with you on this. And let's not forget that Kathleen Kennedy is choosing the director and she's worked with Fincher before on Benjamin Button. If he really is interested - and for now I'm not taking this any more seriously than any of the other dozen internet rumoured names - then that counts in his favour.

I didn't hate V for Vendetta, but I sure didn't like it. Well shot, but emotionally empty (for me).

I wonder how much that Guy Fawkes mask costs every time I see coverage of an Occupy protest.

Just read that Ewan McGregor is open to returning as Obi-Wan. Although I think they should just leave Obi as he is. Even trying to make him look more like Alec Guinness and bringing him back as a ghost wouldn't work. Leave it be I say!

I wouldn't mind seeing Ewan return. I thought he really became Obi-Wan by ROTS, but I'd much rather see Liam Neeson return, even if it is a brief TDKR type cameo.

Maybe Hayden will return as a force ghost Anakin?

Yeah as much as I love Ewan & Obi-Wan I just don't think it would be right seeing him in place of Alec Guinness. Would be cool to see Anakin though making contact with Luke or Leia. Would love to see Qui-Gon but I'm not sure how they would bring him in since he doesn't really have a connection with Luke's generation (or any generation past that) Liam Neeson's a beast though!

ROTS has some very funny parts with R2-D2 and the droids, etc. I am sure you know what I mean. SW doesn't take itself too seriously.
It's an homage to the serials of the 30s, which were really cheesy.
It wouldn't work for me, if it were like the new Batman trilogy.

He even looks like Obi Wan in ROTS in the interview, but since Episode VII supposedly takes place after ROTJ, I don't see how he would make it.
Loved him in AOTC and ROTS though. He didn't have much to do in TPM.

A bit off topic, but he very nearly didn't make Fight Club because of the previous relationship with them on Alien3 - it was only after having multiple meetings and them swearing they wouldn't infringe as much as they did that made him change his mind -- and, thus, creating cinema history (at least for me).

I just wish that damn woman would sit up properly in her chair - you're being filmed, not just lounging around at home!

And Lucas really just rambled sweet nothings for a while there.

Ewan McGregor was a great casting choice as Obi-Wan, he had the look and mannerisms that connected up well with Alec Guinness, but the character in the prequels was just so badly written with poor dialog and little way in the way of direction that it hurt his overall portrayal. It wouldn't make sense to bring him back for the new sequel trilogy anyway because his image is not associated with older Obi-Wan, his time has past. The only ways to possibly bring back the character itself in any way would be to integrade some footage of Alex once again in ghost form in some sort of background cameo role or if the technology is advanced enough in 2015 +, CGI replicate him.
