What a homer. And a joke. But most of the Little 12 is going to vote this way.

The Kansas City Star put Collin Klein as the 1st team QB on their "All-Big 12/SEC" team.

It's going to be interesting to see who wins the Heisman. Earlier this week a lot of people thought Manzel would win, but now there's a lot of talk that the older voters won't vote for a freshman and that Teo has a good chance at becoming the first pure defensive player to win the award.

Oh yes, I remember Jason White. He's the poster child for why Heisman awards need to be voted on after bowl games. This is the guy who completely no-showed in the national championship game, losing to USC 55-19.

It's an interesting vote. Heisman voters hate freshmen and defensive players. I still think the best freshman season ever was Herschel Walker in 1980. HE carried Georgia to a national championship and still only finished 3rd in the Heisman vote.

Manzel will win, but it's going to be close. He was the best player throughout the season, the kid deserves to win regardless of how old he is.

He shouldn't... One big win vs. bama

ND doesn't do crap without Teo.

And Texas A&M wins 4 games without Manziel. He's done much more than win 1 game.

I have to agree. Texas A&M had low expectations this season. Manziel carried that team to a 10-2 record with a tough schedule. He really only had one bad game, against LSU all season. Even their 2 losses were both very close games.

So... ND loses at least 6 without his play.

10 tackles in the purdue game
2 picks and 8 tackles vs. UM
11 tackles vs. Stanford
BYU 10 and a pick
Pitt 7 tackles and half sack
Pick vs. USC

And all that doesn't even account for pressures/scheming for him.

one helped get his team to the national championship the other couldn't even beat LSU/UF.

I never said Te'o shouldn't win. I just said you were greatly undervaluing Manziel.

As far as his losses, they were closes losses against the 3rd and 11th ranked defenses, and 2 top 8 teams. It's not like he was losing to Colorado.

One defensive player doesn't have close to the impact an All-American QB does. That's why skill position players almost always win the Heisman, as they should.

I still think Suh's 2009 season at Nebraska was far more dominant than Te'o's current season. And Suh only finished 4th in the Heisman vote.

And Chase Daniel finished finished 4th in 2007 with more touchdowns (passing of course, and more yards passing)

Fact is the kid padded his stats with 16 touchdowns vs. SMU, South Carolina State and Sam Houston State.

Had he thrown 16 vs. LSU, UF, and Bama that would have been a different story... The only impressive thing about what he's done is he did it at as a freshman.

Anyone who watched those ND games saw if you take Teo off the team they're done, and while A&M might be done too they couldn't beat teams that mattered besides one freak win vs Alabama and even that was only by 5.

Tommy Tuberville is apparently leaving Texas Tech for Cincinnati. I don't understand that at all. He's leaving an upper-tier conference for a conference that's falling apart and a school that has inferior facilities and doesn't sell out their home games. Tuberville must have thought his job was in jeopardy or something else was going on behind the scenes because there's no way to look at this as anything but a step down.

Another bizarro coaching move. For some reason we're seeing coaches willing to take a step down more and more of late. Cincinnati isn't even close to being at the level Texas Tech is in football. The Bearcats home stadium only seats an embarrassingly small 35,000.

I've wondered for years why Cincinnati has such poor facilities and an old stadium. Their program has been fairly successful for the last dozen years or so. You'd think they would have been able to get some funding for improvements. If they had done so, they would more than likely be in a better conference or be in one in the very near future.

I wonder if Texas Tech will consider Kliff Kingsbury for their coaching job. Kingsbury played QB for Tech from 1998-2002 and won the Sammy Baugh award as the nation's top passer. He then spent some time in the pros (he won a Super Bowl ring with the Patriots) before getting into coaching in 2008. He was the co-offensive coordinator at Houston and last year became Texas A&M's offensive coordinator, so he has an impressive résumé, but he's only 33 and has never been a head coach.

This isn't MVP. Bigger impact is not equal to better player. The Heisman is supposed to be "best player". Who's going to be a better player in the NFL? I'm extremely dubious the answer is Manziel.

It's the same problem I have with a lot of Heisman winners.

*EDIT* Swapped out a very poor choice of words.

Who cares about best NFL prospect. Are you going to say because Tebow was bound to suck in the NFL he wasn't the best player in college when he played at UF?

There are at least a dozen college QBs with a bigger impact than Te'o.

Are you saying Te'o doesn't belong anywhere near the "best player" discussion?

I can ask lame straw man questions too.

I'm surprised he didn't get any looks from any of the less prestigious jobs that opened up like South Florida or Purdue. He's a terrific assistant, but I guess his age works against him more than anything else. One day soon he'll be a head coach though.
