Re: Your Avatar. Fresh rumors from the Home Theater forum seem to indicate that Paramount is getting reading to release both War and Peace and Funny Face to blu in 2013. Warner will distribute, it looks like. ++

With only 10 business days left until Christmas, it's getting mighty dicey for cross-border delivery before our post offices shut down. But I like your chances in the big M much better than mine out here in dogsled country. ![]() |

While watching the new Fox Blu-ray of Von Ryan's Express, I couldn't help but notice that our film vault geek emeritus, Nick Redman, was all over the supplements...including the commentary plus several of the featurettes.
One in particular focused on the career of Jerry Goldsmith, and in it, Redman cited a very early Goldsmith score for The Stripper, which, by no small coincidence was also a Fox title...adapted from a reknowned American author (William Inge)...by a future A-list director (Franklin Schaffner)...starring a respected silver era A-lister (Joanne Woodward)...featuring a rare screen appearance in a supporting role (Gypsy Rose Lee)...shot in 2.35:1 B&W 'Scope...which was never previously released OAR on DVD, only panned and scanned for VHS, and even that tape is now long out of print. Sound like a familiar profile? I certainly wasn't born yesterday. So like I said, it's just one of those things that make you go "Hmmm..." ![]() Last edited by ROclockCK; 12-11-2012 at 06:38 AM. |

That would be great, really enjoy both of those movie. I know War & Peace does not receive the same love as other epics of that time but I always felt it was a good movie with a very good cast.

Blue Lagoon will be the first TT new release that will end up shipping AFTER street date. I haven't even gotten an email and I ususally get one just before they ship, which is usually a couple of days before street date. Not a big deal, I just think it's odd.

I thought JMK's review of the film itself was very even-handed P@t, especially considering his admitted long term "obsession" with Lost Horizon '73. Typically, when hardcore fans review personal faves, their critical balance and perspective gets fuzzy, but I sensed none of that in Jeffrey's comments. And I learned a heckuva lot about the troubled history of this movie...certainly enough to realize that I've never seen it in its roadshow entirety, which alone warrants a more open mind going into my first viewing of this Blu-ray.

I never bother with the film sections of online reviews - if I want genuine critical analysis, I'll read an actual critic, like Denby, Lane, Kael, Rosenbaum, Taubin, Kenny, Sarris, one of the critics at Time Out, etc, to see if a film is likely to interest me. On BD and DVD sites, I skip directly to the A/V sections, especially with the reviews here - it helps keep my blood pressure down.
