Thats why I have problems with Nolan and its because of his fans. I enjoyed TDKR immensely and love every bit of it specially Tom Hardy's performance and I do agree that it has a solid direction by Nolan and I like Nolan for avoiding CGI as much as possible in his movies.

But, things like "this movie should win best picture". "Its better than the Godfather" etc makes me sick. If a movie is entertaining that dosent mean it should qualify to win best picture. Its the Nolan Fanboys who made me hate Nolan's work. I mean seriously how can anyone compare him with the likes of Kubrick? But if you see imdb posts he is greater than Kubrick, Fellini and every other director out there and many include the word "Sir" with his name. He is on top on every user's top 10 top 100 or top 500 director's list.

Like I said I love TDKR so much that I can watch it again and again and still enjoy it as I enjoy it for the very first time. Its only because of Bane and the way Nolan directed the shots are breathtaking but if you ask me about the best picture or best director, I will say "No".

Fans deter you from enjoying a director's work you like? Why?

No? What if it's so entertaining that it deserves to win Best Picture
Why does it bother people that sometimes other people like something much more than they do

Why does it matter? If people think he is on that level why does it matter so much to you? I personally don't have my "important" directors and my "entertainment" directors...if I think they do good work they all go into the same place. I don't have a switch in my head that I turn off or on when I go from watching The Dark Knight to watching Last Year at Marionbad. All movies I love go to the exact some place in my head, I don't buy the whole "well, you can like it as long as you know it isn't great". No, if I think it's great I think it's great. Period. I have my problems with The Dark Knight Rises even, it isn't my favorite or even in my top 5 for the year...but raging on people who might feel that way or assuming they are somehow less knowledgeable about film is just stupid.

Plus hating a director's work because of his or her fans is silly, I'm fairly positive on Darron Aronofsky but don't find any of his films to be exceptional. While the people constantly trying to convince me he is incredible might be mildly annoying it doesn't change my opinion any or shift my mild positive opinion to hate.

Wow! That's really lame, man. If I watch a movie, I watch a movie. I don't sit there worrying about who else likes it or who wants to sleep with the director ...
They have meds for that sort of thing. Get some before it's too late.

Well said, well said. I give every film an equal shake if the subject material interests me. I also do NOT blindly like everything by a certain director no matter what. There is a LOT off that stuff that goes on in the movie world.

You are just as irrational as his most irrational fans. The man has no control over how those other people behave, yet you choose to project their behavior onto him and hate him for it. That's irrational.

I kind of agree. Thing is, some directors, along with films, have massive followings on the internet. IMDB tends to be a big representation of that. Nolan happens to be one of those directors.

But yeah, IMDB is crap. I look at their top 250 just as 250 movies worth seeing, but it's laughable how seriously the users take the rankings. Hell, just look at 1 star reviews for movies like The Godfather, The Dark Knight, Shawshank, etc. and 9 times out of 10 they're "revenge voting."

And while I agree that you shouldn't allow fans cause you to dislike a work, at the same time it's human nature for you to be let down after they've built up your expectations. It's the same for people who didn't particularly like The Dark Knight. People legitimately treated the film like it was the second coming, so for people going any, they're going with the expectation of all word-of-mouth. And then, when the same fans downplays any flaws in said movie, it makes you key in on them even more.

I'm afraid the point you're trying to make gets lost in the excessive passion you display. Can you try again please?

I got my Dark Knight DVD trilogy in today, from AmazonUK. I'm so glad I spent a little more and got this version. Of course I'll be removing the dvd's and putting in 6 BDs(will have to figure out what takes up the 6th slot, since BB is only 1 disc).
The lenticular cover is, perhaps, on of the best I've seen as it flashes all three movie covers, and the abridged book has some very nice behind the scenes pics/info from the Art & Making big book. I especially like how the discs snap in with not center spider hub! Two levers on the bottom of all 3 plastic holders eject the discs. I don't think I've ever seen this before.
All in all for £16.25($27.19) shipped I'm quite happy with it!

Steelbook came in the mail today...which is weird cause it shipped a few days after the MiB3 Steelbook...which was meant to be delivered on Monday but never arrived cause for some odd reason the last location was still Tampa and this was meant to arrive tomorrow actually.

Bane's voice sounding like Jimmy Stewart talking through a tin can.

"No Batman, I don't have your money, it's in Bob's house and Tom's hardware store"

I did enjoy the movie though.
