![]() I remember seeing both flicks in the theater when they were first released. Here's hoping they both got 4K restorations and remastered DTS-HD Master Audio soundtracks. |

Wow, what a great lineup. I'm sold on Major Dundee, The Song of Bernadette and The Fury. Not too excited about Christine but it's popularity will no doubt force my hand in pre-ordering. At least it's a damn sight better than the NOTLD remake.
The Song of Bernadette I think I'm most interested in. I've not seen or really read anything about it critically speaking, but Jennifer Jones won Best Actress for it and that's all I need to know. |

![]() But finally Major Dundee is official... ![]() The Song of Bernadette was quite a surprise though because it was originally a "Fox Studio Classics" DVD, and after their recent round of announcements for 2013, it appeared that the studio was reserving all those flagship DVD series (Studio/Cinema/War/Noir) for Blu-ray releases of their own. So for TT to be getting this title represents an unexpected twist on that theory, perhaps signalling that the studio's interest in those legacy series will be much more selective? Maybe TT will even get The Ghost and Mrs. Muir - not only one of my all-time faves but also collector nirvana with Herrmann in an IST. Anyway, regardless how you feel about TSOB as a movie (I like it but don't love it), this was an unquestionably 1st class '40s production with beautifully expressive vintage B&W cinematography plus a superb Oscar-winning score by the legendary Alfred Newman: Between Experiment in Terror, the Flint films, the epic Nicholas and Alexandra, Tyrone Power's lost in the vault Technicolor adventure The Pony Soldier, that twin-hit of 80s Horror via Christine and The Fury, plus the long awaited Dundee SE, and now this award winning studio classic, it looks like TT is getting off on a very fast foot in '13... My only consolation is that after the busier-than-usual Fall stretch for catalogue titles, I've still got a considerable backlog of discs to enjoy over the holidays. Besides, since we'll lose 3 to 4 days over those EMP blackouts after the macroburst sunspot activity coinciding with the end of the Mayan calendar, I'll surely have enough to keep me preoccupied anyway... ![]() |

love Jennifer Jones--one of my favorite "classic" actresses.
![]() maybe this release signals a possibility that TT will release Love is a Many Spendored Thing. another Fox studio classic dvd. C'mon Fox or TT--make it happen PLEASE!!!! I will not rest until that film makes it to bd. ![]() btw: I caved and ordered Lost Horizon. I just have to see how cheesy that musical is. it sounds like the perfect film for a group night viewing party. I'm honestly dying to read a full account of how one becomes "obsessed" with that particular film--like the reviewer apparently became. I know I've been obsessed with more films or albums or books than I care to admit, but that obsession sounds downright scary. ![]() Last edited by Arkadin; 12-11-2012 at 09:46 PM. |

Looks like SAE is going mainstream. They're now carrying some of the newer blu-ray releases from Sony, Fox, WB, Universal, Paramount, Disney, Lionsgate, MPI Media (Dark Sky Films), etc.

I watched a "holiday" movie today that I had never seen before--It happened on 5th Avenue.
Ever seen that one P@t? It was ok. ![]() of all the "classic" genres comedies are usually the ones I struggle the most with, and I didn't know if that one was drama or a comedy before I watched it. Last edited by Arkadin; 12-11-2012 at 10:07 PM. |

FYI: There are a couple of excerpts from LIAMST in Brian Jamieson's superb Nancy Kwan documentary To Whom It May Concern: Ka Shen's Journey, which were used to illustrate Hollywood's "yellow face" casting during the era. The clips looked pretty good - it seemed like the picture is in decent enough shape to make the transition to HD. Last edited by ROclockCK; 12-11-2012 at 10:31 PM. |

years ago Fox said they were restoring The Agony and the Ecstasy, so I have no idea what happened to it.
![]() Flight of the Phoenix is the perfect TT title imo, but one I really want to see them release is King Rat. that film is so good, and I certainly don't see another avenue for it to be released. TT really needs to release more war films imo. There are so many good Fox and Columbia ones just begging to be released. I also really want Peyton Place and The Valley of the Dolls.
