Default Movies available in HD but not likely going Blu

Hi,

I'm looking for Spice World and while it may or may not go to Blu Ray someday,... it's available now in HDX on VUDU.

I imagine there are countless titles available in HD that don't have enough of a demand to be released on disc.

Edit - I notice one of my favorite movies Femme Fatale is also available in HDX but who knows when or if this excellent movie will be on Blu.

This may be the best possible reason for streaming video services to exist.

Nice. Yeah I noticed that too about Spice World. I wasn't expecting that, but noticed a few different times some movies available in HDX but not available on Blu-Ray. Like the two Mighty Ducks sequels.

I've never been enthused of downloading movies! I prefer having the actual blu-ray disc(s) in my hand. If the movie is not available in BD, then I'll watch the movie upconverted on DVD instead, before I download anything.

I'd prefer to download movies and have hard drives full of them. Then I'd get all my wall space back. No more worries about scratched discs, slipcovers, packaging, and all that other nonsense. And, in theory, since the packaging typically costs the most out of all the pieces (it always did during the CD days, and probably still holds true now), then downloads should cost less. Probably won't happen, but who knows.

I'm still learning about vudu. I was tempted for a moment to use my DVD of femme Fatale to qualify for a $5 hdx version.

However, I recently watched the upconverted DVD and it was great and I wasn't needing or using the Internet to do it.

I think I agree I would rather upconvert DVDs of stuff that's not on Blu.

Most everything is available on DVD.

But you also need multiple redundant storage though.

And then when your HDD crashes you have to re-download everything and if you are on a ISP that limits your monthly bandwidth that is another issue. I would rather just own the physical copy and not have to rely on online services to be available when i want to stream/download, have to worry about replacing HDD's and losing movies and re-downloading etc.

On top of that you rarely ever get any of the bonus features, commentary etc. and for the most part you can find the physical editions cheaper. If space is an issue and you have unlimited bandwidth i guess i could see the appeal but even then i would put my movies in binders to save room before switching to digital.

Siege Of Firebase Gloria is likely never going blu. There's never even been an official dvd release which is a shame because for a rather low budget film, it's extremely well done. Personally, I think it rates 3rd behind Platoon and Apocalypse Now for best Vietnam film ever made and yes that does include Full Metal Jacket.

Yeah, this was a great movie. Would love if it went Blu...but it seems to be a forgotten movie.

Many I know of, but one I recently wanted to get is the 2000 version of Hamlet, directed by Michael Almereyda. It is only $12.99 on iTunes in HD, so that's what I'll do. It's not hugely popular, and it was also filmed in 16mm, so chances for a BD are slim.

I prefer physical media, give me a blu-ray disc any day over streaming or downloading. Although download is useful because I give my codes to a friend who hasn't gone blu as of yet, and not sure she ever will buy a blu-ray player or movies. So I am happy to help.

But as for movies not released on blu-ray, I'd love to see the HBO series The Wire get released on blu-ray. I was a fan when it aired, but didn't see most of the episodes, and would like to, but I'm not buying it on DVD, might have to use iTunes to see it one day if it isn't released on my prefered format.

Beta,

Yeah,... I know ... Spice world is junk. I sold my DVD but my kids are into the spice girls since the Olympics closing concert and they want to see it.

Strange was to start a post on a much broader topic.

I'd love to see Spice World on Blu which thanks to Sony licensing out titles gives it a good chance. Of course, if Twilight Time ends up with it... I'll buy the Vudu Ultraviolet copy. It is stored in the UV cloud and I can download if necessary. Matter of fact, thanks to a Wal-mart promo, I have A Knight's Tale theatrical cut in 1080p HD in UV along with a 1080p HD UV copy of Immortal Beloved.

Or you just have a backup. That's how I have all of my music, over 2000 CDS fit neatly on 1 hard drive, all lossless. Problem solved. And I rarely watch commentaries and extras. I work in Hollywood, I get enough behind the scenes on a daily basis.
