Default Moniker's Blu-Ray Wishlist Thread

While I won't have time to post more than a film or two before I have to go back to work, I wanted to create a thread where I can add some films that I...

A) want on Blu-Ray
B) think both deserve and demand the Blu-Ray treatment

Since my students are about to show up for 8th period, I'll just post two of my primary choices:

I purposefully have not bought this film yet because I'm waiting for the Blu-Ray release. I'm usually too impatient or impulsive to wait these things out. It should be added that this isn't exactly one of my top 20 films of all time or anything, though I do really like it. But I think the visuals alone demand the hi-def treatment.

Easily the best in the series, and one of the (if not THE) best adventure films ever made:

I first saw this film in the summer of 1982, just before I turned 4 years old. Seeing it in the theaters is literally my earliest memory of anything from my nearly-30-year existence. I freaked out during an early scene when Elliot spots E.T. in the cornfield using a flashlight. The creature's eyes grew wide and he began screaming, as did I. My father had to take me out into the lobby due to my loud sobbing and I couldn't return safely until the science class/frog liberation sequence. Later that day I developed hives brought on by the fear I had experienced. Two years later the film was re-released, I saw it without difficulty, and it quickly became one of my favorites. Four years later, in 1988, I walked into Top Video at the tender age of 10 with my Mickey Mouse bank in tow. I opened it and poured all my change on the counter, adding it up and handing it to the annoyed cashier so that I could purchase the long-anticipated pre-viewed VHS copy of E.T.

and for something more recent and less expected...

a film that made a big splash nearly 12 years ago, sparking a cult following in college campuses across the globe. those fans who grew out of it months later didn't see the film for what it truly was, which was something far more brilliant and respectable than all the posters and soundtrack sales could possibly express.

While I would probably buy all but two of the Coen Brothers films on Blu-Ray (guess which 2 I'm excluding), there's a special place in my heart for one of their most overlooked and underrated features. Released in 1990 around the time of Goodfellas and The Godfather Part III, this gangster picture found itself lost in the shuffle. That's a shame, since it tends to improve with multiple viewings and holds up well today. And, as is expected in a Coens flick, the cinematography is first-rate.

I figured as much. My only regret is that I wasn't able to start the thread sooner. My apologies, Ookie.

of course i'm anxious, as we all are, for The Lord of the Rings trilogy

however, i've always been partial to the film that really made me a fan of Peter Jackson. it's also the film that made me confident he could pull off the LOTR trilogy when all these other geeks on webboards were angry that "the guy who did The Frighteners" had been hired by New Line to butcher their beloved series

if you haven't seen this film, which was based on a chilling true story, you really need to do so immediately. it's also visually stunning, making it even more deserving of a BD release.
