I heard nothing but bad things, but as a blind buy, I was pleasantly surprised. I'm not really a fan of Renner - it's not that he's the same in every role, he's just pretty bland doing it - but his blank, pug-dog face seemed to work best as a super soldier devoid of much feeling. It was too dialogue-driven and tried too hard to connect the dots between the previous trilogy, but it felt like Skyfall to me (which was also too dialogue-y and never picked up a natural flow)... as one big setup for the NEXT film, which promises to kick azz.

Unlikely, but sure...so exchange it!

Saw this in theaters, looking forward to picking this up. Just curious, but is the digital copy HD or SD? I was pleasantly surprised to see more recent releases like Expendables 2 featuring an HD digital copy so I'm hoping Legacy has one as well...

Interesting. While the film didn't get much in the way of critical raves, if you look at the reviews on rottentomatoes.com, even the reviewers who didn't like the film as a whole mostly praised Renner.

The first time I'd encountered Renner was in the short-lived TV series from a couple of years ago called The Unusuals. I'd never heard of him at that point, but from the first episode, I was thinking, "Who the hell is this guy? He's terrific!" Next thing I know, he's getting an Oscar nomination for The Hurt Locker.

While I was sorry to see The Unusuals not get renewed for another season, I imagine that Renner was thrilled, given his exploding movie career. He's now a prominent character in three popular film franchises.

By the way, thanks to those who posted how to tell the Best Buy exclusive copies, and what the bonus disc consisted of. Based on the latter, I decided to not bother making the 30-mile round trip back to BB to exchange it (assuming they had any stashed away somewhere).

Well, like I already said, his blank hang-dog look fit the "stupid guy-turned-genetically-smart soldier" pretty well.

Good decision. I watched the bonus disc last night. The content was forgettable.

Default Glad I Rented...

IMHO, the worst film of 2012. I agree with most of your opinions that Renner was great, but the characters were not developed and neither was the story - plus the ending was terrible.

I say "worst film of 2012", because a film like this almost makes it impossible that Matt Damon can return to the series. He's said in numerous reports that he will not team up with Renner's character if he does another one, so what good did this movie do anyone? The first hour is basically a rehash of Ultimatum.

Sorely disappointed, but definitely understand some of the positive reviews on this board - as a standalone movie, not linked with the other 3, its decent, but not a movie I would add to my collection. Glad I invested in the trilogy last year, as to me this series remains a trilogy.

Too bad I cannot "un-see" this movie.

I thought the film was ok and not as good as the first 3 obviously. My biggest issue was Edward Norton. He's a fine actor but just though he was miscast as whatever he was the head off at the FBI/CIA. He was out of his league compared to the great Joan Allen and David Strathairn who are fantastc actors.

I had no issues with Jeremy Renner or Rachel Weisz but was a bit lost in the beginning with "man in the wilderness" introdution.

I also kind of missed Paul Greengrass' endless shakey cam style

Totally agree - Norton felt out of place to me too. And I definitely did not have any problems with Rachel Weisz

Funny because i never heard or read Matt Damon saying he wouldnt team up with Renner but what i did read its that Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass back during Ultimatum did think if they had to bring a new character to the Bourne movie it would have been Jeremy Renner (thats before he was cast in Legacy) so i would be very surprised that Damon wouldnt want to work with Renner since Jeremy his one of Damon's favorite actor.

Calling Bourne Legacy worst movie 2012 is bit extreme.

Quote:
There’s been talk about you joining Jeremy Renner in Bourne 5. Producer Frank Marshall said that was his dream, recently. Is that something that you’re interested in?

Matt Damon: “You know, if they had a script, I mean I’d love it. Paul and I have talked about doing another one for years. We’ve been kind of dancing around it. We just never could find a story that we felt was good enough. And if we could, then we’d do it, and we’d do it in a second. We love the character, we love the world and I’d love to do it. But it’s always been…We don’t want to get into it like ‘Oh, you guys’ll figure it out,’ because then it just means years off of our lives. And the last movie was really, really tough. We had no script and we were making the movie for a release date on the fly. And at that budget it was really terrifying and stressful and there’s no reason to do that.

If there is a great movie to be made, then we can figure it out beforehand and then go make it, the way you always do. You know what I mean? But nobody’s ever come forward with that script, so we’ll see. I mean I want to do it, but we’ll see. We’ll see what happens. I bet this one’ll be a big hit, though.”

Do you mean The Bourne Legacy?

Matt Damon: “This one this summer, with Jeremy(Renner), yeah. He’s awesome, and you know, he’s one of my favorite actors and I believe him in that world. You know, when Paul and I talked about maybe doing one, years ago, where we pass it off to somebody so the franchise can continue with someone else, Renner was the first guy that we talked about.”

The great thing about this message board is that everyone has an opinion. This is my own honest opinion, that is why I said its the worst film of the year. I am glad you liked the film though. Here is my reference for what I said above - that Matt Damon won't team up with Renner, because he doesn't see that working out so well - based on what the producers have done with the film. It's a crack, read it for yourself:

http://movies.msn.com/movies/article.aspx?news=780494

Matt Damon is definitely down for doing more films, if they can figure out a way to sidestep this awful production.

Thanks!

But like he said he still havent seen Legacy and he said he dont see those characters teaming up with anybody...but we can take that with for what its worth since he didnt see the movie.

The key here...its the story like he said many times.

Not going to keep going back and forth with you man, so you win.

He hasn't "seen" the movie yet, just like Brian Singer never made time to see X-Men 3 when it first came out - which means he knows it doesn't hold a candle to what came before it, which in turn means no Damon/Renner dream team movie, because it would ruin what Damon did with the franchise.

Like I said, glad you enjoyed the film man, but to me it was complete garbage. Not even a compelling bad guy at the end.

But like I said, this is my opinion only, not meant to offend anyone, just thought I'd add my two cents in.

I will say this for Legacy, I can't think of any character I cared about at the end of the film.

Matt Damon Says 'Bourne Legacy' Makes It Hard for Him to Return

Quote:
Damon has watched The Bourne Legacy, and this is what he said about how it effects his return:

"I think it's going to make it harder for us to make another one. I'm just trying to figure out like… Because they used our characters, anything that happens in that world, that's the 'Bourne' world now. So the pill popping and all that stuff happens. I don't know what that story would be. I love Jeremy and I'm a huge fan of him and I know him personally and love him outside of work, too. But I just don't know what that story would be. I could never see Bourne teaming up with anyone. And all he said was – he wanted out, he wanted out, he wanted out. So how do you get that character going again?"
