And I never understood why people hate films for being unrealistic, especially a horror film, as 90% of horror films are unrealistic and that's why I love them. I enjoy some based on a true story serial killer flicks, but it would be depressing if that's all you watched. I want to see the monster flicks, hockey masked killers, ghosts, aliens, zombies, and of course Halloween masks that kill people when they watch a Halloween jingle on TV. To each their own though I guess.

+1 If all we had was "realism" in horror flicks then all we'd be watching are unpleasant psycho flicks as you said-- I want to be entertained, not depressed. I'll be enjoying all those "unrealistic" horror flicks (and action flicks as well) for a very long time!

Of course this makes no sense at all as the US covers multiple time zones and while it may be 9 pm in Northern California, it's already 1am on the East Coast where certainly there would not be children huddled around their tv sets.

One of the things you always see in a lousy movie is when the protagonist is captured by the villian and the villian has to explain his evil plan in a long winded monologue to the hero (and to the viewers) so that the movie makes some kind of sense.

In this case the hero is captured, taken to the factory and then given a guided tour (why?) of the "final proccessing" portion of the plant and is told in depth details about the master plan, what will happen and how it will be accomplished (why?) before being conveniently left alone to plan and execute his escape.

There are plenty of movies that I don't like but I would never call them awful. Just because I couldn't connect to a film doesn't mean that I can't see it's merits. Halloween III is an awful movie because it was just a combination of poor elements from acting, script, directing. Taste is subjective but craft is not.

I would guess Scream acquired this title because they saw some easy profits from the Halloween brand. They have a number of wonderful films coming up that I'm really looking forward to.
You must be a blast at parties

Seriously though. For one, I'm not sure how old you are, but, as a 33 year old, when I was a kid growing up in the 80's, if I heard that a product i knew and loved was doing a mass giveaway on Halloween night at 9pm, you bet your a** I would be in front of that TV, just like tons of other kids my age.

Also, regarding the time zones. Who's to say that, across the country, the giveaway wasn't scheduled for an hour earlier, time zone specific, so to say.

The movie is not without its problems, but I think it's a fun little relic that's fun to give a spin every October. Frankly, I'm a little pissed that the concept of a different, Myers-less Halloween franchise never took off, as it could have provided so many ideas, a new riff on The Twilight Zone, if you will.

I like every film in the Halloween franchise, on their own individual terms (except for Resurrection. The DVD for that barely even makes for a substandard coaster), and Halloween III is no different. Granted I usually watch it last because it stands apart from the rest. But, by no means do I think that makes it a lesser film.

Oh, and the soundtrack is incredible as well. Worth the download, in every respect. It gets more than a few plays in the car and around the house every October.

agree with that too-- I refuse to even acknowledge the existence of RESURRECTION but I like all the other films in the HALLOWEEN series!

Yup, for me the Jamie Lee Curtis storyline ends the minute she
[Show spoiler]lobs off Mikey's head at the end of H2O
. Book it, done.

Martin Liebman's review gave the film pretty low marks across the board, but the limitations on the disc are likely inherent to the source materials rather than the transfer, mastering or encoding. It's not reference quality, but I feel fairly confident that it's an accurate representation of the film. This is probably the best this film will ever look or sound on home media.

I'm not aware of any alternate cuts other than the theatrical cut on the disc.

Completely agree with everything. I don't compare each film, I just view them as their own. I mean just think of Halloween II, you could never compare it to the first one. I think each film brought something to the table, whether it was good or bad... now that's another issue. They all have flaws (well...come to think it the first one is perfect) but they also have so many good things and are part of the slasher genre. Personally, I love HIII, people tend to it for the simple fact that MM isn't in it. Does that mean that the movie is perfect? God no, but it's an enjoyable and original movie that stands apart from the usual rehash of the same story. It's too bad that the idea didn't work.

I have the soundtrack and it's awesome. So creepy and out there.

I feel the same way, the franchise ended with that movie. That movie marked the beginning of the end for me, cause each movie got progressively worse.

Yep, I also think it was something related to the masters. As for the movie, it's uncut.

I think I'm the only person on the planet who thought H2O sucked. I much prefer any of the previous sequels.

At least we can all agree that Resurrection is horrible.

I didn't hate Resurrection as much as I hated the Reality show story arc and the casting. The only thing I found interesting about the film, though, was the revelation of Myers' hideout underneath the house. That sort of explained where he spent his "down time" in between killings the rest of the year and why no one was able to capture him. But, yeah, the film isn't among the best in the series - not by a long shot.

Our transfer of THE STEPFATHER was done with the only surviving film element for the film - a print. Everything else was gone...thrown away at some point.
The film is the same R-rated version that played in theatres. There is no UNCUT version of the film.

The Stepfather BD looks good for what it is. The only downside for me was the stereo soundtrack not being present.

Cliff - did the idea ever arise into possibly taking the stereo PCM track from the Laserdisc? Just something that came to mind.

It's awesome so I don't think you'll be disappointed. I have the Shout disc and I thought it was great. Definitely the best I've seen the film look and an easy replacement for my German Marketing Film DVD.

Now I just need to get my hands on the Shout disc of Miike's Audition.
