I've been catching up on all the Criterions I purchased while down in the States. Eating Raoul was a delightful off-beat comedy. Rosemary's Baby is a film that, with much consideration, I could possibly call an all time favorite. Following was absolutely boring to me. First blind buy I've been fully disappointed with.

2011 Poll Results:

Very gratifying to see World on a Wire make "Best New Spine" plus "Release of the Year", and also the David Lean Directs Noel Coward box for the latter.

A funky, unexpected choice of Letter Never Sent as "Favorite Blind Buy", which I overlooked for my own picks in favour of Lonesome, but I agree with the winning choice.

Anatomy of a Murder was a waste for "Best Cover Art"...I mean, everything remarkable about it was thanks to original artist Saul Bass, nothing Criterion did, other than not getting in the way of it.

Rosemary's Baby was w-a-y overrepresented in every category. I mean, yeeeesh.

And proof that the universe is unfolding as it should, Tiny Furniture continues to live down to its name.

All in all, an interesting snapshot of our tastes. Thanks again for taking the time to poll and compile this ShellOilJunior!

Shallow Grave, Brazil and Following are the Blu-rays I received. Already watched Shallow Grave, for the first time that is, and enjoyed it thoroughly. Not sure how it made itself onto the Criterion Collection to be honest but I still very much liked it.

As do I, dregs. So far I've blind bought Rosemary's Baby, 8 1/2, Chungking Express, and Paris, Texas. Loved Rosemary's Baby (great dialogue and acting). Saw Chungking today and loved the film, particularly the cinematography and the fact that the film was obviously made by director who is expert in his craft. as long as the films are this good, I'll continue doing so.

I don't understand how you can say this. If you're right, then why does a movie, say, made in 1973 have to undergo countless hours of restoration to be up to snuff to high quality 2012 Blu-Ray releases? And even if the restoration is done perfectly, often you can still tell it's not a new release?

La Jetee/Sans Soleil should get more attention for 2012 releases IMHO

I didn't know that La Jetee was the inspiration for 12 Monkeys

I just watched 12 Monkeys today and I found it quite enjoyable!

Im ending up selling/sold most of my Criterions. I find there's not much films I truly love. Kept 12 Angry Men, Bottle Rocket, Curious Case of Benjamin, Last Year At Marienbad, Paris Texas, Paths of Glory and Three Colors

(and also a couple OOP that I store somewhere hidden)

Do you have a lot of Criterion specific thieves in your area?

The Yakuza(1974) and The Mosquito Coast(1986) would be my picks for a Criterion restoration and blu-ray release.

We are excruciatingly overdue for a Mulholland Drive Criterion. Here's hoping 2013 delivers!

I bought Last Year At Marienbad and Heaven's Gate on DVD a couple months back when I found them for cheap, but then ended up buying a Blu-ray Player and HDTV shortly after. I suck at life.

They're both amazing films, though!

One certain scene almost had me in tears, as the hands of fate were closing in, I couldn't help but feel the pain and sorrow of missed opportunity.

Also, I'm adding a CC want: Owning Mahowny. Its a powerful film on greed, obsession & want. It's also about someone playing with someone elses money, not unlike the Collapse of '08.
I hope they release a few more of Satyajit Ray's movies, there are so many great films by him.

I wholeheartedly agree. This was a release I knew nothing about and it didn't really capture my interest, but I blind bought it once I read the review and discovered the link to 12 Monkeys. La Jetee was awesome as expected, I've only been able to watch parts of Sans Soleil, but that one is right up my alley as well. I've made a note to go back and watch the film "AK" that Chris Marker made on Kurosawa on the set of RAN (it's on the RAN Criterion DVD, and I believe it's on the Studio Canal blu as well).
