Default Best Villain Performance of 2012?

This year has brought some of the best characters including Bane, Loki, Silva, Calvin Candie and many more. The question is, who gave the best performance as a villain in 2012?

My choice: Leonardo DiCaprio as Calvin Candie in Django Unchained

What's yours?

Calvin Candie as well. He was just all kinds of awesome. He was funny and slightly charismatic (not that much because he was always a racist savage), yet equally evil and scary. I think Sam Jackson's Stephen deserves a mention as well though.

Loved Loki in Thor, but he was more one-dimensional in The Avengers since he was beyond helping.

Bardem's Silva was also a real demented bastard, but he didn't top Candie for me.

Maybe it's beause I have a thing for British accents (male or female) but I loved Tom Hiddleston's Loki. I'm not ashamed to admit I have a man crush on his voice

Hey, I'm as straight as an arrow, but I love his voice. I like the way he pronounces words, phonetically.

Tom Hardy as Bane. Very very very close second is Javier Bardem as Silva.
I think Tom Hiddleston is great as Loki and gave a very good performance, but there just wasn't enough there to make it to the top spot.

Charlize Theron as Ravenna in Snow White and the Huntsman gets props because I thought her performance was great. It was the writing that wasn't great. In Prometheus,
[Show spoiler]Michael Fassbender gets props as David.
Great performance, I just don't know if it is quite villain status.

Loki for me. Bane had a much higher chance until the big reveal at the end of TDKR.

[Show spoiler]I never understood why David is considered a villain.

He strikes me as more of an anti-hero.

Just my thoughts.
[Show spoiler]He has no regard for human life in his exploration and experimentation. He opens the chamber doors in the underground facilities, not knowing what is on the other side, with the people exposed. He puts the mysterious black liquid in that guy's drink. And he tries to force the girl into giving birth to an alien creature (which would have probably killed her). One could argue that he is programmed that way and that Weyland is the real villain. I think he is sentient though. I think he knows what he is doing and just doesn't have a conscience. If he were human, he would be a sociopath.

If I had to choose between those guys, I'll take Candie.

Calvin Candie seemed like a very cheesy role to me and I was laughing at him more through the film than anything. Tom Hardy was great as Bane, but he was sort of in the shadow of Ledger's Joker and certain events in the film actually made me like him more. My choice for villian would be Silva from Skyfall as he was original, funny, and menacing all at the same time.

Nothing will top Daniel Henshall as John Bunting in The Snowtown Murders.

1.) Loki - He was so evil in the Avengers. I wanted him to die.

2.) Silva - He was a hybrid of Hannibal Lecter and The Joker. The fact he was gay made him all the more interesting.

3.) Bane - He had a hypnotic voice and that was a mighty fine coat he was wearing. If it wasn't for the bad writing, he'd be higher on my list.

Social Services from Moonrise Kingdom - Because I was bored of seeing the same three names pop up.

Other great villains no one is thinking of:
  • The bad guy from Looper, whether it be Older Joe, The Rainmaker or Jeff Daniels character, you decide.
  • Damon Lindelof from Prometheus
  • Brad Pitt from Killing Them Softly
  • Brad Pitt for producing World War Z and its trailer.
  • Phillip Seymour Hoffman from The Master
  • Mad dog from The Raid (that guy just did not give up!)
  • Guy Pierce from Lawless
  • Osama Bin Laden from Zero Dark Thirty

I have to agree with everyone saying Calvin Candie. DiCaprio was great in that role.
