Consensus seems to be (even from someone who worked on it), Seinfeld was shot 4-perf 35mm with no widescreen presentation in mind. Like ST:TNG.

There are some SD/HD network comparisons online which show no cropping but they're flawed since most networks simply take the HD version and centre cut it for their SD broadcast. In those situations, the SD version is actually double-cropped!

Comparing the actual DVDs to the HD broadcasts reveals obvious cropping.

Does it matter for a show like Seinfeld? Probably not. But saying it's not cropped at all is simply misinformation.

Edit: Here's a very quick comparison screen I made from the HD widescreen vs the DVDs:

http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/2...ld720s07e0.jpg (HD)
http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/6...5thehottub.jpg (DVD)

While not the best comparison to show, it's still easy to see we lose a little from the top, gain a little on the sides, and lose quite a lot from the bottom.

They have series 1 listed for a future blu-ray release. On 3 blu-ray. No other details or release date have been confirmed.

I have been dying to trade in my DVD series and go to Blu. This is the only TV Show I would ever buy on Blu...well...maybe Family Guy.

But early Family Guy was probably only made in SD anyway, so there's less to gain.

Does this site usually have a good track record with these kinds of listings?

I somewhat agree. Jerry Seinfeld is a terrible actor/comedian. He can't act. His stand-up stuff is pretty much on the same painful level. But the supporting cast is phenomenal. Which the main reason why this show was such a huge hit. And Larry David.

Your opinion is valid but definitely not the popular opinion. There is no right or wrong opinion just popular and unpopular opinion. But if opinions were democratic, you'd be voted out with that opinion. Oh well

Part of the charm is that he can't act that well....it's about him being him....I don't get why people can't get that

Jerry is worth 800 Million, so I don't think he cares but the fans should be rewarded for loyalty. I still can't believe the lack of content on Blu ray compared to DvD even tho blu ray took off around 2007, I mean you have heaps of editions of certain dvds have home out over the years and you lucky if your fave movie or tv has even been released on blu ray.

You do know that the majority of TV shows back before HD were filmed on Tape right.. and would serve no benefit to being on Blu-Ray?

Plus there are also millions of movies that have never seen the light of day on DVD either.

Why doesn't Sony do This:
December 2015: Release Seinfeld Seasons 1 & 2 and Season 3
June 2016: Release Seinfeld Season 4 and Season 5
December 2016: Release Seinfeld: Season 6 and Season 7
June 2017: Release Seinfeld: Season 8 and Season 9
December 2017: Release the Complete Series Box Set

If it's released this way, it'll give Sony some time to restore the episodes, and make some new special features (like commentaries on each episode, a new documentary for each season, etc). It may take a while to get all the seasons on BD, but it would be worth it if they get this treatment.

Default Seinfeld DVD Box set cheaper than ever.

Been waiting for badly for Blu too. Especially since it is owned by Sony Pictures, has been opened out to 1.78:1 for cable TV (obviously filmed on 35mm), why no BR yet...

It is getting harder and harder to hold off on buying the DVD set. In Australia this week, the entire season box set is selling for $69! Don't want to double dip (as I have done that all too often).

Also, TV1 (Foxtel cable channel), is going off air on Dec 31 (playing Top Ten Seinfeld eps, ironcially, as final broadcast) to be replaced by TVHits, which I believe won't be playing different Seinfeld eps twice a night as TV1 did. This was where I could easily get my Seinfeld fix. Oh, what to do now!

Please, please, please Sony find it in your heart (and wallet) to release the entire series on Blu Ray. I'm sure many would purchase it, even at a $200-300 price point

Stan (Australian streaming service) is bragging "Seinfeld is the only place to watch the whole series"... Although, they are still played nightly on Aussie cable; With the popularity of streaming services, I'd guess that Sony is content to sell the rights and with that, inform the buyer as a bonus "You will have HD exclusivity: as we have no plans to release on BD"

Hope my aforementioned hypothesis is not the case. Although it would explain The Simpsons no longer begin released on BD. Frak you Fox.

However, if any series could work on BD, it would be Seinfeld. I have been holding off on the DVD for years.
While I would like to see 1.33:1 (as I believe the widescreen versions on cable are pan/scan (cropped) to go widescreen), I would even be content with 1.78:1. Hell, I would even be content with BD-R.

Sidenote: S3 Ep18 The Limo (which I just watched) had a laugh track all the way through. Although, I have seen a version with no laugh track for most parts (in the limo, on the street backlot).
Therefore, I presume it must be canned laughter (as none of the show takes place in Jerry's apartment, no studio audience).
If the Sein (love the Sein), ever comes to BD, I hope the version of The Limo with minimal laugh track makes it to BD.
