Four-Part NBC Sports Network Series to Look at the Business of the NFL

What changed?

NBC Sports Network will be taking an in-depth look at how the NFL has stolen the hearts of American consumers in a four-part series, debuting Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET, entitled Star-Spangled Sundays.

"Episode I: Rise of a Colossus – Tuesday, January 8 at 10 p.m. E.T.. ET. Deft handling of the new medium of television vaults the National Football League from America’s fourth most popular sport into a cultural and financial titan.

Episode II: Labor Pains – Tuesday, January 15 (Time TBD). NFL players and owners work to create labor peace in the NFL’s $9 billion industry.

Episode III: Brand NFL – Tuesday, January 22 (Time TBD). Riding a cultural and demographic tidal wave, the NFL turns professional football into a year-round, revenue-generating business and has become the most powerful brand in American sports.

Episode IV: Super Sunday – Tuesday, January 29 (Time TBD). The NFL transforms the Super Bowl into the biggest entertainment event on the American calendar."

It sounds like a Star Wars series from the titles.

I'd bet Green Bay has more actual Packer fans who attend than Dallas has Dallas fans attend. Seems like every week there are at least 10% opponent fans in Cowboy's stadium, getting up to 30% for the Pittsburghs and Chicagos of the world.

Source - http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/blog/ey...wns-head-coach

Quote:
Chip Kelly makes life-changing decisions about his future in coaching faster than he calls plays apparently, as the Oregon coach, less than 24 hours removed from a decisive Fiesta Bowl victory, is reportedly close to a deal to become the next coach of the Cleveland Browns.

CBSSports.com's Mike Freeman reports that a deal with Kelly and the Browns is very close. One source tells Freeman the deal is "close but not done" and "could be done [Friday night] or this weekend." Ian Rapoport of NFL.com first reported the deal.

The Browns were, by all accounts, the first team to speak with Kelly following his BCS victory on Thursday. And clearly new owner Jimmy Haslam and new personnel man Joe Banner weren't going to let the Ducks coach go anywhere else.

Back in early August when Haslam took over the team, he said he was "fired up to the max" to be in charge of the Browns. But he also said that he and his ownership group planned on changing the "culture" in Cleveland.

Kelly isn't just a change, he's a culture shock. That's not a bad thing, though. Bringing in an innovative mind like Kelly is a bold move and it's a move that could pay off in spades.

Any notion that Kelly's offense won't work in the NFL is stodgy; Kelly's offense is a run-based, up-tempo attack. Plug Trent Richardson in his system and the former Alabama star is going to put up some serious numbers. With Joe Thomas at left tackle and Alex Mack at center, Kelly also has some athletic linemen to work in his system.

Brandon Weeden is a big question mark, but there are potentially other options available

I was terrified that we were going to hire him.

that would be nice, and i hope they do - but the defense is what worries me most this weekend. they just have been... so flat. but then again, i could be talking about the offense just as well

I would pick the raiders if they were in

I heard some stat like 43 of 50 something reports/analysts at NBC,FOX, CBS, NFLN, exc. picked Seattle over the skins...

Cool stat:
http://www.thebiglead.com/index.php/...-nfl-playoffs/

of Home underdog NFL playoffs of 30 straight up games the home team went 21-8-1

Even with all the paper that says we've got a good shot to win, I'm just worried we'll see 2007 pats type score [52-7]

If you watch the NFLN on his audio he says jokingly (although its serious ) I can run for 10 when we need it but any more than that and I'm getting down I think he's like 50-75% healthy

Hopefully AP will add a couple more hundred yards to that total. I'm pretty sure 600+ rushing yards against a single team in the same season would be a record.

Seahawks are a clear case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, they are a totally different team on the road than at home. I'm not saying they can't win(I think they are 1-7 away this year), though winning 2 games in a row on the road seems like mission impossible for them.

Edit: 3-5, it's not that bad...

if Kelly does leave, i hope he succeeds. problem with Cleveland is a lack of speed and talent, and most coaches don't get long enough to get their guys in place. the roster would need an almost complete overhaul. new coaches should be given at least four years and four drafts, unless they're absolutely terrible.

hopefully everyone continues to sleep on Seattle (i don't want them getting a bunch of attention! ) so they march right to the Lombardi Trophy!

I just looked it up, they have beaten Buffalo, Carolina and Chicago on the road, nothing to write home about...

I stand by my prediction that they can't win 2 games in a row away from Seattle...
