![]() ![]() I have to write the original movie credits and other textes at back cover and start a new one cover of Hobbit movie..... which is No. 14 of movies whit more than a billion $ of cinema box office! There's only 14 movies with that score. But Hobbit will be replaced the 13-th movie The Dark Knight, 'cause there is time to do that. Maybe after 4th Jurassic Park and 5th Terminator it will be more than 14 movies in this class. Who knows?... ![]() |

The only problem is that we have too much 72dpi and 96dpi stuff being uploaded and nobody that makes covers or wants posters made is going to use that type of source. Its very frustrating to download a pic only to find out its not Hi Res, not to mention it makes searching through the thread that much harder. Also there is already a custom cover thread to get quality covers from. Just my 2 cents.
P.S Thank you to all who do post quality stuff here! |

Many people seem to get hung up on the DPI (dots per inch) or PPI (pixels per inch) setting within a digital photo as a measure of the quality of those photos.
To set the record straight, the DPI/PPI setting in a digital photo has NOTHING to do with digital image quality! The resolution of a digital image is determined only by its pixels (usually expressed as megapixels). The main factors that determine image quality are: 1. The size (in pixels) of the digital image. 2. The digital format it is stored in (lossless vs lossy compression). The size of a digital photo is measured in pixels (the smallest color component in a photo). Take two photos that are exactly the same size, say 2000 pixels in width by 3000 in height, and both have been saved at 25% JPEG compression. Their DPI can be set to radically different values, but the photos will be identical in quality (why? because the pixels don't change). So, what is DPI and why are so many people hung up about it? DPI is short for Dots Per Inch and it actually refers to printed dots per inch, so for a good printed image you need 300-600 dpi, but setting that in an image will not change the number of pixels it has or it's resolution in other words, only it's physical printed size will be affected by changing the dpi setting, this is due to the dot size change because as the dpi goes up the printed dots get smaller ie closer together, monitors on the other hand can not change and no monitor can display higher than 96dpi on a PC and 72dpi on a Mac. These days, when used in photo software, it means PPI, which are pixels per inch. DPI and PPI are two different things, yet often DPI is used when PPI is meant, so read its usage in context. DPI is a measure of how a image is printed to a medium such as paper. Many software programs call PPI a measure of "resolution" which leads to more confusion since it is the resolution of the printed output they refer to, not the "resolution" of the digital image. Fact is the main reasons large pixel images or high resolution images are poor quality is 1. They are really smaller inferior quality images that have been blown up to a large size (very common practice on the internet) or 2. they were of good quality to begin with but they have been "over compressed" to shrink the file size, once that is done the image quality is lost forever. You are welcome to check into this further, and verify it through other sources but you will find this all to be quite true. BTW you are correct on the quality aspect on much of the available material, but the cause is not the dpi setting, it's the other things listed above that have been done to the original files that has lowered the quality, and it's sad really that the ones doing it don't in most cases even realize they are permanently ruining high quality images. Sorry for the long read. Last edited by ctaulbee; 01-08-2013 at 06:47 AM. |

Well, this part of my previous post, for sure sounded kind of bad "...on much of the available material," I meant on the net in general not this thread, many post nice stuff in here so I don't want to get that twisted.
