I wonder if David Lynch's Dune will ever see a Criterion release. I'm not holding my breath, but I could certainly see it happening years from now.

I thought I'd ask you knowledgable bunch:

I was thinking about Perfume: Story of a Murderer, and seeing as how it hasn't hit Bluray (except in foreign markets)...any rumblings about that hitting Criterion? It sounds like a good fit to me.

I've also been hoping for Irreversible (a little Gaspar Noe never hurt anybody), which would fit nicely in the Criterion collection...Amores Perros perhaps? Downfall?

They would all be quite nice and perhaps possible since they're not on blu here in the States (as far as I can tell...)

Should Antonioni's trilogy be watched in order?

I don't think there's a chance in hell. At least while he's alive. He hates Dune.

He's sadly mistaken, because Dune is an outstanding movie.

I see your point, though, because Criterion favors director-approved movies.

I would agree it's probably better this way. I watched them out of order and, since each one becomes a bit less 'conventional', going from a later one to an earlier one can cause the wrong expectations.

I don't believe it's necessary to do so. The ending of L'Eclisse does serve as an effective coda, though.

Then there's the question of Red Desert, which thematically fits with these films as well, and is perhaps an even more effective epilogue.

Agreed. If a director's cut could be conceived and implemented, that would be the only way I see Lynch involved with this film in any way. But since that doesn't exist...yeah.

Maybe they can convince him to make the longer cut he wanted.

I am interested in having the Monica Vitti films that are available on Blu-ray. This means that I will have to upgrade my DVD of Red Desert and wait on the others to be available in time.

The ones presently available on Criterion are all superb films for the patient viewer.

I just bought a brand new copy of Armageddon on DVD but it didn't come with a booklet. Does anyone else have it and did it come with a booklet?

I think it's an outstanding experience in a so-ridiculous-it's-great kind of way. I also find some of the compositions and production design to be stunning. Do you own the Universal BD? It's more than satisfactory.

A better lynch release would be Twin Peaks, they could gradually fade the episodes to black (the last episode of S2 would be jet black) as an over the top wink at the audience. Seriously, though, all series should have a similar trajectory: gradually become unwatchable once the juice runs out

I sure do. Dune was one of the first Blu-rays I purchased, and it looks fantastic. I am a 1980s kid to the bone, so many of my first Blu-rays were movies like Dune, Flash Gordon, and the like.
When I was in seventh grade, I heard about the film release of Dune, bought the Frank Herbert novel, bought a few sci-fi magazines with articles about the film, and ultimately saw the film with friends on the week of release.

It would be fun to see a souped-up Criterion edition someday, though.

I love excessive 80's movies! If you ever get the chance PM me some underseen 80's movies with killer soundtracks, especially new wave/ new romantic style, post-punk, or even corny radio hits. I can't get enough of that stuff!

I've been meaning to read Herbert's Dune, but the dictionary and mythology seem too daunting to take on. I feel as if I need to clear out a weekend to immerse myself in the Dune-verse.

I am glad criterion will release Badlands on blu ray. I saw the DVD a year ago, the transfer was horrible and does the film no justice; like the DVD of Days of Heaven. There is a scene of a burning house that would look amazing on blu ray.

Seeing Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek so young with great performances make me yearn for more actors with that caliber in movies today. Warren Oates' performance is amazing (although short) in this film outside Peckinpah.

Forget Lynch or Aronofsky. Bring me the head of Alfredo Garcia, now that would be the greatest release of the year 2013 if criterion releases it.

I thought this post sounded like a repeat. A quick search revealed this post from Dec 26:

Someone using different user names has been spamming this thread continuously, three or more times a day now, repeating previous posts from real members. It has gotten to where the past few weeks just about every thread by a "new member" is spam. It is also going on in a few other of the other stickied threads. Just a public service announcement, folks, because the troll seems to get off on your responding to him.
