But more importantly, it's Spielberg. He hasn't let any studio release a substandard BD of any film he directed. (Aside from Jurassic Park, which was clearly a placeholder using an existing HD transfer until the BD of the new scan done for the 3D conversion comes out.)

Schindler's was shot with multiple film stocks, I can see someone not familiar with the film being confused with what they were seeing. It won the Oscar for cinematography, and I would be gobsmacked if Spielberg released a lower-quality version of one of his real masterworks.

i would not be surprised if they had trouble finding a decent print to scan. back in my movie theater days, as I recall we had a lot of issues with schindlers prints degrading, because the chemical makeup of the film they chose to print it on was black and white /color. they also made the projectors more dirty due to excessive film dust and debris.
that aside watching this film on the big screen in the theater really made a tremendous impact on the audience with spielberg's subtle use of color. one that would be really hard to reproduce in a home theater i think. |

No, I'd like to see an actal documentary about the making of the film, the choices made, the tips of the hat to neo-realism, the nods to the films of Carol Reed and Orson Welles in the use of lighting, the parallel editing, the adaptation by Zaillian, the score by Williams, Spielberg's decision to smash classicism against post-modernism, the insights from the acting ensmble...one could go on for hours examining the film, maybe it's time the filmmaking is given some attention as an addition to the time devoted to the subject. If one were to be very greedy, Neeson stated he really misses the deleted scene featuring the game of 21 between Oskar and Amon for the life of Helen Hirsch, and fans of the film have always wanted to see it.
