WTF Warner. I'm going to see the Hobbit today and realized the $5 off coupons that came with the releases at Target expired on December 30th! Wow a mere 2 weeks after the movie comes out during xmas! Thanks guys!

I was actually really lucky to have noticed the rapid expiration date. I bought the trilogy for under $12 with shipping because I figured the $5 coupon made it an incredible deal. Luckly, I did notice the expiration date when we opened the movie as a Christmas present (and subsequently went to the movies that week). I think it's pretty bad of them not to explicitely say or clearly indicate that the expiration is so close to the release date.

Okay, so the ONLY difference between the 2011 and 2012 release of the LOTR Extended Edition Trilogy is that the 2011 version comes with a digital copy and the 2012 version doesn't?

OMG check out this Coors Light commercial. The snow isn't white! Oh yeah, that's because it's not supposed to be, it's a stylistic choice.

Hahaha, what does a Coors Light commercial have to do with anything?

It's the fact that the snow was originally white that is the basis of the complaint. If it were originally completely teal no one would be complaining, it's the fact that it's been drastically changed.

And Coors Light is just about the worst quality beer in the world.... piss water.

If you like the genre (action fantasy), in books or film, they're a must-buy. Also, if you have a good sound system at home, they're a good buy, but especially for the last movie. Crank it up nice and loud.

I've got the UK set, if you like epic fantasies you'll love these movies. The theatrical set is about half the price if you're worried but if you love the films you'll want to upgrade the films to their extended editions.

Maybe it was originally white and maybe not... just because the first bad blu-ray was closer to white doesn't mean that's how it was intended to look. That's what's great about the style of films, they don't have to mimic the real world (especially since Middle Earth isn't real, anyway).

If you are going to wait on The Hobbit before watching LOTR, you'll have to wait a few more years for the other 2 upcoming Hobbit films to be released.

Watch LOTR first.

Just ordered the extended box set, finally, are the complaints about the picture of Fellowship Of The Ring true? Is it really noticable this supposed green tint?

I see it, but honestly, if I didn't read about on the forum here, it wouldn't have even occurred to me.

It was. It has nothing to do with "realism" either, nothing about the original presentation was realistic. It was extremely stylized, the point is this release is very different from the original presentation.

There are copious amounts of extra materials that detail specifically how they "intended" the color grading to look (by Lesnie and Jackson themselves), and this release directly contradicts that look. Skip to 3.45 in this. They describe exactly why they did what they did in Hobbiton for example, that look is completely altered in this new release... instead of the green and teal purposely de-emphasized as it was originally this new release is exactly the opposite. That is how it looked originally, and it's clear that's how they intended them to look. All of those scenes in the color grading extras, every single one, no longer appears the way it once did, they have all been drastically altered by the green saturation.

Well then why don't the other two films look dark green too then?
