If someone is a car buff, do you think just any car would be there prefer choose. No, that want a car with certain features. A vhs or dcd film just presence the film, at the expense of quality. Bluray and 3d aren't quite popular to make DVDs nonexistent. They are still expensive when compared to DVDs and VHS.
I guess all in all it depends on the film buff.

personally, i just cant watch crap formats any more. when i go to a friends house and i have to sit and watch a dvd on their $20 dvd player (connected to an hdtv of course), i just cringe (but i make it look like a smile). who are we to tell you what you like? enjoy.
I can handle watching old formats, but I prefer Blu-ray.

Thank you for the intelligent responses, both of you! It's more often I am just attacked on this site for having a different opinion.

I don't see attacking someone while having a debate or talking about something is anyway helpful. It is all about gaining more knowledge and understanding one another. In my mind, it helps give one wisdom on a subject and not be narrow-minded towards other people.

It does have the 2d version on it. Maybe if sales are good, they might release a 2d only disc later on, but for now the 3d and 2d versions on same will have to do. As far as 3d, it hasn't come close to making me follower, with animated films aside, only one film that have seen 3d that was actually good in that format was when I saw it in the 3d. The others just didn't look good or natural looking.

Wouldn't you get better transfers for each the 2D an 3D version had separate disks?

Having them separate makes it possible to sell one version and bring the cost down by about half or more. That's the difference between picking up something on release date or waiting months for a sale.

Well, I, for one, watch BDs, because of superior picture and sound quality.
That's the WHOLE point! So, it DOES matter to me.

Bad idea!

I don't want 3-D, and they should always be kept separately, as I would hate to see the quality of the presentation suffer.

Also, then they can just say 3-D is popular, because the only way you can get the 2-D version is by buying the 3-D along with it. Stupid!

I am sick and tired of all the 3-D combo packs, that have more special features than the 2-D edition, so if you care about special features you have to get the 3-D edition, if though you can't stand 3-D!

They can only play these games for so long with me!!

Is the Dredd movie the only film with this or are there other movies. I wonder, because since it didn't do well in theaters and the movie was made with 3d in mind on certain aspects of the movie, the studio was probably looking for the cheapest route for the dics release. Maybe, if it sells very well then a 2d only disc could be possible in the future.

Underworld awakening is a perfect example not having 3d +2d versions on one disk

Personally i think BD & DVD are superior to VHS due to the fact that the tape cant strech or break on a BD
( but then again if the tape snapped you could always tape it back together )
Id prefer to have 2D and 3D on separate discs, but if its only released as one disc ( IE dredd),,ill still buy it

I have no interest in 3D and prefer separate discs for 2D and 3D.

I also prefer separate discs for multi-title sets. Cramming too much data on a single disc reeks of 'three steps forward, two steps back'.

While I understand the spirit of what you're saying, as a film buff I'd still disagree. I will always go for the best available for any film, but, I'd never let the fact that the only existing releases of a particular good film are sub-par (in transfer or format) prevent me from watching it.

There are many films I'd like to own and watch on DVD, but I'm waiting to buy them in hopes they come out on Blu-ray. Part of why I'm content to wait (for most things) is the huge amount of backlog I have to watch already...no rush.

Many of Sony's releases have 2D and 3D on the same disc such as Open Season and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.

Quite right and I believe Underworld: Awakening is the only release to date where the PQ of the 2D version is hampered from being crammed onto the same disc as the 3D version.

My lazy eye in my right eye prevents me from having the full effect of 3D movies, since I do not see in 3D in the first place. For this reason, I obviously have no interest in 3D, and will always purchase the 2D version when given a choice.

That said, I have no problem with 2D and 3D on the same disc as long as the quality of the 2D presentation is not compromised. My disc of The Creature of the Black Lagoon in the Universal Monsters box set features both versions, and the 2D version looks great.

My personal predicament is oddly comforting, in an offbeat sort of way, because I am inclined to think that my developing collection of Blu-rays will be the final versions of these movies that I ever need to buy. Surely, there's no tangible way to make further improvements on these movies to my eyes.

As long as I can get a 2D presentation of a movie without shelling out additional money, I'm ambivalent about whether or not a 3D version appears on the same disc.

I have bad astigmatism in my right eye so I was unable to see 3D movies or shoot a firearm properly. I got glasses back in October and fixed both of those problems. I am still shocked at how good The Hobbit looked in 3D.
