Do you have an internet connection in your parent's basement where your room is? I'd start there.

You'll need some sort of ISP, as well as a wireless router or ethernet router. You'll also need some other computer to establish the router before the PS3 can be logged in.

If you do a search for wireless, I am sure you will find a neighbor with an unprotected access

wired or wireless.

that is one of the things I hated most working at RadioShack, our #1 return was wireless cards because the customer couldn't figure out that you have to PAY for internet. A wireless card only helps you connect to a router or another machine, it does not give you the internet. The PS Network is free, but that is not internet, it is pretty much the same thing as Xbox Live, again not internet.

It is a matter of directly plugging in the PS3 to your Internet router using cat5 Ethernet cable. This assumes that you have an Internet connection, prefrebly broadband and your router has a spare port. If your router hasn't got spare ports ot if you have a PC modem (i.e. PC card) things will be more complex.

On some games the ps3 tells me it doesn't have a connection. IS this just because they want me on a high bandwith connection rather than a wireless one?

Wireless is not reliable as a wired connection. Wireless could drop or reduce speed depending on the distance to the base and other interference factors. Do you get this message consistently when playing a particular game while some other games consistently working without problem.

You could try connecting PS3 via a cable, if you have a (spare) port and a cable.

I bought an Apple Airport extreme/Time Capsule and have wirelessly hooked up my PS3. It works beautifully. I even have MAC address filtering and closed network on and there are no interruption in the signal or anything.
I highly recommend the Apple wireless products.

There is another option that I just setup which worked well. Check ebay for Motorolo NIM100. These plug in in-line to you cable coax and will use the coax and create a bridge between them. You would need 2 - one for the room where you cable is and one where your PS3 is. I like them. Plug-and-play and seems much more reliable (and faster) then wireless.

I hooked some up last night and doing HD Tivo to HD Tivo transfers I was getting better then real time transfer on 1080i HD content and it was faster then the wireless I had been using.

Here is a tivo thread that talks about them (same thing would apply to a PS3). Question 18 covers them. http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb...ghlight=NIM100

I have ethernets i ran when i moved into my new house, but I haven't gotten the cable set up in the top of the closet in the other room. I don't really recall getting it on a specific game or anything...devil may cry is all i can remmeber, i don't remember if its on others. (dont play much) but i know it can update via wi-fi, i think it should at least be able to try to play...set up wifi and wired, so that you can seperate high latency from low latency

You should get the best quality connection with an Ethernet cable provided no faults in the cable or ports.
