I held out seeing this in theaters waiting for it to come out on BD - so I guess you can still call this a blind buy for me.

I personally would say "There Will Be Blood". Either way, 2007 was a helluva year for movies, with NCFOM and TWBB, two of the best movies I've ever seen.

Default Heads or tails...

It's got suspense, a creepy bad guy, and it pulls the rug out from under you. I was at first unpleasantly surprised, but came to relish it. This is one of those modern day films that truly is JUST SOMETHING TO WATCH. There's a point, but it's delivered so obliquely, you don't really get it until you've had sometime to let it simmer a bit - and definitely worth a re-watch.

You could just say that it's no movie for old men.

I'm blind buying it.

This is the way I see it - Seeing it in the theater is more of a monetary risk then bying the BD.

If the girl & I had one to see it in the theater, it would have cost us $20 just for the tickets plus whatever we would spend on snacks. So probably $30 for us to have seen it. In a crowded theater.

The BD will cost $25 at the most, but probably much less if that coupon works. If we don't like it, then the BD still has some resale value and we can recoup most of our money. I'll be out maybe $5 if I end up hating it. Consider it a rental.

In the end, it works out to be more economical to just buy the BD than to see the movie in the theater.

Overall the feel of the movie strongly leans towards a western and the parched, bleak colourless backdrops bleed lots of colour out of the film. What colours there are appear fairly washed out and not as vivid or as distinct as things could have been.
That reviewer must be smoking the whacky tobaccy.

I just finished watching the blu-ray. Picture quality is SPECTACULAR! PCM Track is wonderful at making the dialog crisp and clean, and WHAT A MOVIE!!! Loved it. I was on the edge of my seat 90% of the time. Really, its one heck of a flick. My buddy let me borrow it but im going to buy it on tuesday, loved it so much.

Um. It takes place in west Texas. Has the reviewer ever SEEN west Texas?

Besides, the landscape is the landscape, not the main character. The film is SUPPOSED to smack of desperation. The outlook is SUPPOSED to be bleak. It's the losing battle against evil. This film would never use "Shiny, Happy People" in the Soundtrack. I think the reviewer missed the point and in doing so, only highlighted their own silliness...

OP, I hope you don't mind if I pick at you for a moment..., but I'm curious now. What exactly is a "blind buy". I always assumed a blind buy was a purchase of an item with little knowledge of it's contents in hopes that it will be decent (based solely on the package description).

In that case, then this would no longer be a blind buy for you right? (based on all of the helpful info you gain in this thread)

It is a really fine piece of work and is without question a film everyone should pick up. I agree that it takes multiple viewings to really appreciate the film.

I would say yes, you'll either love it, or hate it. I myself thought it was excellent, but you may have to watch it a couple times to really "get" it.
But it is in my opinion a very original thriller/drama, with perhaps one of the best villains in recent memory.

In this case, it would be a movie you buy without seeing it first.

Although I like the Coen Brothers, I feel their movies have very little replay value. I made the mistake of blind buying Gone Baby Gone based on all of the recommendations here. It was a good movie but I just don't see myself ever taking the time to watch it again. I feel like No Country for Old Men will be the same way so I didn't blind buy it today. I will rent though whenever Netflix feels like sending me a movie.

This is absolutely a good blind buy because it isn't exactly a fast paced action movie yet its extremely violent. I also got Hitman I,Robot which will rule and ID4
