Brave is beautiful, but has issues with it's script -- the zany witch just didn't work for me, at all. Conversely, Wreck-It has a screenplay equal to the best of Pixar's past efforts. The story structure is tight as a drum. Neither were nominated for screenplay, but I'd vote for Ralph based on the strength of the script.
I found the structure pretty uneven between the two subplots. I'd still vote Wreck-It Ralph though.

AMC doing best picture marathons, a 4 movie, 5, and 9 (24 hour) marathon

I'd do one but I've already seen like 7 of them and the price is too high

I want Argo and or Silver Linings Playbook to win most of the awards and Wreck it Ralph for best animation.

That's actually a really good idea, why don't more theatre's do this (at least do one film nightly leading up to the event)

I only have one more to go and I'm seeing it tonight (Silver Linings Playbook). Once I've seen them all I'm going to sum up my opinions about them and the awards they should win & will win. Ah, I can always count on my friends on blu ray.com to listen to the stuff people in real life have no idea what I'm talking about!

What's everyone's ratings for the best pic nominees?

Mine:
1. Django Unchained (10/10)
2. Beasts of the Southern Wild (9/10)
3. Argo (9/10)
4. Life of Pi (8/10)
5. Amour (8/10)
6. Les Miserables (6/10)

Seeing the rest, next week, will come back and update.

1. Lincoln 10/10
2. Silver Linings Playbook 9.5/10
3. Les Miserables 9/10
4. Zero Dark Thirty 9/10
5. Argo 8.5/10
6. Django Unchained 7/10

I'm planning to go see Life of Pi on Tuesday. I'll wait for the video releases of Amour and Beasts of the Southern Wild.

Skyfall should have been included by the Academy! I rate it 9.5/10.

I'll have to think about specific ratings, but after seeing all the noms I can say Lincoln is my least favorite. Zero Dark is probably my favorite.

Thanks. I just noticed that and was coming back here to mention it. It's available in several local Red Box kiosks but only on DVD. I don't watch DVD. Maybe a rental from iTunes in high-def.

Saw Lincoln today. Full thoughts tomorrow. Brief thoughts? Curious how the film absorbs you, and when you smack yourself out of the spell, trying to study what Spielberg is doing, you're drawn right back into the spell again. This is the most visible/invisible Spielberg film ever. When Spielberg finally shows his hand, in the final seconds, it was jarring. But this mirrors the sfx opening, so they bookend.

I respect your opinion and you're right to express it. But you are seriously in the minority. Not that there's anything wrong with that!

I'd vote Amour 10/10. It's a damn great movie and if it wins the Oscar for Best Picture the Oscars will surely gain back a lot of it's credibility in selecting truly greqt films. Though I would prefer Argo to win, it's high time the Oscars gave the big price to a thriller again.

Hey now. I'll sit through anything if it has Winona Ryder in it.

I agree. I know she's hot shit right now but Anne Hathaway has never failed to disappoint imo. As for her playing Catwoman - sorry Nolan, Selina Kyle - she doesn't hold a candle to Michelle Pfeiffer.

I agree as well. Always a 'performance' with her. Self aware acting. Les Mis wasn't her worst offender, but she over did some moments during the I Dream a Dream sequence and when she's being harassed on the street.

Juliette Binoche once said (paraphrasing), "the best acting advice I ever got, was to do nothing." Obviously not literally, but that's what separates someone like Binoche to the showy "hey look at me" performers like Hathaway. Hathaway could never do great subtle acting like what Binoche did in "Blue".

I don't hate Anne Hathaway. I'm just so annoyed and disappointed with her every time because she obviously has some talent, but she's constantly overacting and rarely feels natural.
