It is sad that some of the movies on this list have no chance whatsoever of winning the best picture Oscar.

It should be FIVE nominations only.

The only good thing about The Master was that it was filmed in 70mm. I saw it in 70mm, but thank god I did not have to pay for it as it was free.

Argo is now a comfortable number 1. Crazy turn of events but I'm glad to see it.

Agree. 5. Everything else is 5, so best picture should be as well. They really should have did this 5+ thing like years ago when there were films that actually deserved the recognition.

I like the 5-10 rule. Sure lots don't have a chance, but the box office bump from a nom is most welcome, as is the free press. Not to mention they are rewarding hard work.

I don't know why people are hating The Master. Joaquin Phoenix deserves an Oscar. He should have won for both Gladiator and Walk the Line. He outperformed both of his previous nominations.

But it's probably going to Daniel Day-Lewis since he's probably the most dedicated actor of all time and nobody else will ever play Abraham Lincoln at the standard that he did.

I love the Master as well and it would of been my favourite out the bunch if it was nominated

I think you may be in the minority here. Lincoln was unwatchable for the first 30 minutes or so. Well, I walked out after that and it may well have had the greatest last 2 hours in film history but I know for a fact the first 30 minutes was the worst in my life of going to the movies.

I was not thoroughly engaged by Lincoln. But it's just one of those movies where you're not supposed to hate on, even if you disliked it. It's well made from a technical standpoint, and features outstanding acting, but the story and the way its presented makes for a snooze fest.

It's about President Lincoln, it was directed by Steven Spielberg, features a great performance from Daniel Day Lewis, and it's an Oscar favorite. Which means, even people that were bored by it will lie and say they loved it because that's just the way it is and that's the popular opinion. And they are so worried by what other people will think of their taste if they say they disliked a critically acclaimed film. It happens.

One more Pixar flop and it probably will be. (Monsters University not included.)
They're finally getting used to it by now, and that "Look at all the cool stuff the Golden Globes nominates!" factor has faded somewhat now that the third Dark Knight film has come and gone.

He's not in the minority. The film has excellent reviews, earned 12 Oscar Nominations, and has been doing great business at the box office (through good word of mouth).

Just because you didn't enjoy something (or the first 30 minutes of something ), that doesn't make you an authority on how the film is being received.

Yours truly found it to be one of the very best films of the year. My love of American history may very well have something to do with it, but it is my opinion nonetheless.

All the element are good, the only mistake is Spielberg's distancing effect he added to the film, the film should of been engrossing but instead it feels like a dud lecture.

Yeah, Lincoln is so unwatchable, it is an absolute mystery how it managed to pack audiences in, week after week after week. It definitely needed more explosions and hookers, maybe a UFC cage fight, or a panda that knows Kung Fu. That would liven things up and make that popcorn go down faster.
