I have ordered 4 of these steel-books and paid the extra postage for guaranteed delivery on release date.

1/Grand Hotel
2/Treasure of the Sierra Madre
3/Maltese Falcon
4/Jazz Singer.

I received an e-mail this morning stating
WHY WAS THE DELIVERY ESTIMATE CHANGED?
While we do our best to stick to these estimates, our inventory is constantly changing based on information we receive directly from our suppliers.
Occasionally, unexpected fluctuations in supply or changes in release dates for new products will add time to our original availability estimate.

They are refunding the postage charges but there is no indication when items will be dispatched.

This is getting strange although the order on Amazon is showing dispatching soon it has in fact just been delivered by ParcelForce

Just tested the Casablanca disc in the steelbook - unfortunately I can confirm that this is the old 2008 VC1 transfer, not the new 4k master.

Are the stickers easily peeled off? Or is it best to wait until I have some kind of removal substance? Six of these arrived this morning, very happy indeed. They're all gorgeous. Very tempted to order the other four, but it's been an expensive month for me.

I was afraid of that after hearing what they did for the Australian re-release of the movie. It's a pretty poor showing by Warner for not releasing the latest transfer of the movie that they have.

I'm wondering too, can anyone verify what version comes with the UV copy? As far as I know, only the 70th anniversary edition is on Ultraviolet. It'd be even more pitiful if it came with the new transfer digitally, but not on disc.

Looking forward to receiving Grand Hotel, NBNW, and Streetcar. These do look very nice. I wonder if I should hold off on the US Postman Always Rings Twice in the hopes of it receiving similar treatment?

I was thinking the same about both Cabaret and Whatever Happened to Baby Jane, as they aren't out in the UK yet either. I'll hold off for a while before importing those digibooks!

I had suspected RE: Casablanca. I have the single disc 70th Anniversary so will just swap the discs out, but it's annoying I'll have a spare copy of the 2008 version that isn't sellable.

Since I cannot make a new thread since I am new, I will post my question here and hope that someone can help me.

Why is it that the USA seems to have a very low amount of steelbook cases compared to other larger countries like Canada, UK and Germany? It just does not make sense to me.

Recently I have been looking on the Canadian and UK Amazon sites and also a little on the German (although it is tough since I can't read German) and will probably be getting some off of those site, but there are still a lot of exclusives to other stores. I would like to get some that are exclusive to play.com and futureshop.com but it does not seem that those stores do international shipping.

So I guess my question is what sites do people use in the US to get imported BD's? Also, some of the BD's state that they are region free or that they are only for a specific region, but not all do and I do not want to take a chance buying them if my PS3 won't play them (pretty sure the PS3 will not play all regions of BD's)...so id there a rule of thumb on which studios use encoding?

Having done a small bit of research online, apparently the difference between the 2008 version and the 70th anniversary isn't that huge, and only truly noticeable on 50inch plus TVs and projectors, so for me I'll live with the disc.

However, I can imagine that a significant number of people on this forum and those who will buy this steelbook do have that kind of set up. Therefore it is infuriating and a poor showing, as has been previously mentioned, that Warner haven't provided us with the latest transfer of one of their most iconic and popular movies, especially since these steelbooks are, I imagine, meant to celebrate the legacy and timeless appeal of these films.

I buy only from Amazon for the UK, Canada Germany, Italy, France and Spain. They all ship to the US.

As far as region coding goes, anything you see from Warner or Universal are going to be region free. You can't really make sweeping generalizations with the other big studios. Sony has mostly region free releases, as does Paramount I believe. Fox is more of a toss-up. Smaller studio releases from Eureka/Masters of Cinema, Second Sight, and Arrow are usually region locked. The database here is more accurate than Amazon. Usually if you search for the steelbook here, or even the regular version (make sure you search under that release's country though) on this site you'll find whether it's locked or not.

To add to what MifuneFan said for Steels that you can't buy on one of the Amazon sites, you can go through a Group Buy here or eBay.

If the release has not sold well or not in high demand, eBay prices may be close or just a bit higher than a Group Buy. Just saying that because some of the members' Group Buys are fairly restrictive (like no new members for example or a need certain feedback level)

Thanks a lot for the response. Sucks that navigating the Amazon pages in foreign countries using the translate feature seems to hit or miss for me.

Well it looks like group buys will be out of the questions since I am new here and have no feedback.

Yeah, but the layout is exactly the same as the US site, so all the add to cart, and checkout options are in the same place.
