Hey Cliff I was wondering if you guys got the rights to this pretty good movie I watched recently ''Miami Blues'', with Alec Baldwin, Fred Ward and Jennifer Jason Leigh. If not no Biggie I got it on dvd a few days ago but its gotta be one of the first dvd's released on that format, but I wouldn't mind buying it on bluray, its also from MGM . By the way really looking forward to '' I Come In Peace'' and ''The Vagrant''.

Hey Cliff, I'm just curious, did you guys at SF make a run at the Night of the Living Dead remake? I know you guys would've treated it much better than Twilight Time did!!

Miami Blues is one of the non-horror MGM titles I wanted to inquire about in Cliff' insider thread also (didn't dare as there are about 40 titles I'd like to ask about). I don't believe it ever received an anamorphic R1 DVD release (the reason I never bought it).

I did my final bit of splurging for a while.

I took advantage of the 10% off on DD orders, and ended up getting The Island, Deadly Blessing, and Death Valley. Came out to 17.49 or 17.69 ea before tax, which bumped it up to about 18.50 each. Not bad.

My only worry there is that I won't get all the slipcovers. Just will be a pain to track them down if I don't.

Also had a few Amazon gift cards laying around, ended up nabbing Zombie Ultimate Edition (Finally...), Legend, and a pre-order for TerrorVision/The Video Dead.

Since I had 50 dollars in gift cards, only paid 3.06 out of pocket.

Probably will lay off on Blu-rays all together until Phantasm II and From Beyond come out.

Also, is there a Synapse thread in activity? I have a few suggestions for the PHENOMENA and TENEBRAE covers:

That Phenomena cover looks like it came from Disney

I wonder why Ken Foree turned down an opportunity to talk about From Beyond. I can't imagine Cliff didn't reach out to him, and normally he seems willing and ready to make a few bucks off the stuff he's been in. It would've been great to hear what he had to say about From Beyond. Ah well, I'm still stoked for the From Beyond disc.

That Tenebre cover is from the Australian release DVD, so they wouldn't be using that.

A few more I forgot: the Child's Play sequels, Black Sabbath, the wonderful Nighttide, The Blob (both original and potentially remake), Blood and Black Lace, any others I'm missing? Great news on Synapse and The Kindred - I know they've had it in the works for a while. It's such a creepy, gooey flick, looking forward to watching it in HD, as the best version I've watched has been a washed-out looking laserdisc.

Twilight Time didn't make that HD master, Sony did.

So Don had THE KINDRED all along? I thought he was trying to get the rights and was having trouble dis-entangling the ownership. In any case, it's one more title to happily add to the long shopping list. Personally, this will be a blind buy since I don't think I've ever seen the film but I do fondly remember the baby bottle artwork from the video stores. Whats the movie about?

Yeah, 'cause it's super simple to just put it on blu-ray. Just because something is public domain doesn't mean it doesn't cost money. The million or so DVD versions of NOTLD 68, especially the ones you find in the dollar bin, just took a VHS copy and plopped it on a DVD. Or worse, they just ripped their transfer from another low-budget DVD copy. Ugh.

You want to put out a blu-ray? OK, here's what you do...

Go find a nice 35mm print or better yet, the original negatives. Then go pay to use a nice Spirit DataCine to scan a new HD master for the blu-ray. Then commission some artwork and pay a mastering house to create the blu-ray and the menus for the disc. Then go pay a replication company to press up the discs and package them with the artwork. Then find and pay a distributor to get them in stores, or set up an online storefront where people can order from, where you can process transactions. You'll need to store these discs somewhere as well, so you might want to check out some storage space or rent shelves in a warehouse. Then...profits!

The main reason it was so easy to put on DVD is because no one expected an HD transfer. Now if you were to publicize a blu-ray release, you better believe fans would want a nice HD transfer, and getting a hold of one of those (short of stealing one from a blu-ray released in another country, which is NOT legal, even though the actual movie is in the public domain) is not the easiest thing to do. You'd need an actual copy of the film, and that's not something budget companies are going to invest the time in finding...

That said, you can easily get a region-A friendly blu-ray from Amazon Japan. It's pretty decent, in my opinion. I know the Weinsteins are sitting on an HD transfer, just not sure why they don't care enough to release a blu-ray in the States. Might not be enough money in it for them...

The Phantasm II art is by far my favorite. I hope it'll come with a slipcover.

Death Valley and The Island don't have slipcovers. The Nest won't have one either. Only their Collector's Editions (which includes Deadly Blessing) have them.

It will be since it's a Collector's Edition title so you're in luck
