They sound nice, play flat, and are fast. But you may not need that much juice. My own gear that I've used with QSC includes some real power hogs - Sonus Faber Domus speakers, and Definitive Technologies ST's - and they do very well with them. But you may not need that much power, and the Emotiva will probably fit the bill quite nicely. Their base 5 channel amp puts out 80 watts for a 4 ohm load, and that will certainly feed the bulldog for most normal speakers. Where these amps really shine is with passive subwoofers. For builders, these amps are a dream. If you have a passive amplifier, or are replacing an dead amp in a powered subwoofer, they are a real option if your speaker driver is a real power gulper. If you're running in stereo mode for large mains, they're ideal. The advantage is cost - they're less expensive. The drawback is noise. Big Daddy has foud inexpensive, quiet fans to replace stock fans that are fairly noisy (for Behringer units). I've found on my QSC's that it's not the fan being loud - it's the vibration on the chassis that generates sound. I have to figure out how to isolate the fan from the chassis - either through some tube setup (I don't really want to do that) or some way of padding the fan without losing airflow. But it's not really bad, at least on the QSC, and I've been using them for three years now. Think it over, see if you need that much muscle. It's an option...and it's not too expensive. |
