That's a pretty solid review. I just finished chapter 4 and am enjoying the show quite a bit.
Having caught up via Netflix on a lot of series that I never watched, I really dig being able to just watch as many or as little episodes as I want. I do think this will be the future of television serials. I also love that they don't need to throw in arbitrary cliff hangers just to keep an audience coming back. Next up is Arrested Development. |

The one thing I hated about the final episode was to find out that Kevin Spacey's character is a former KGB deep cover operative. WTF? |

It is. I'm guessing he thought it would be funny to supposedly put a major spoiler (which isn't even remotely true) right after talking about feeling like he needed to watch the entire season quickly to avoid spoilers.
It probably seemed funnier in his head. |

I called and spoke to a customer service rep at Netflix about House of Cards possibly making its way to Blu-ray/DVD.
He said that the Company has announced that they have made a firm decision that they will NOT sell Blu-rays or DVDs. He said that the Company has not yet decided if they will produce discs for rental purposes. He said he is getting about five inqueries on the subject per day, and so are his coworkers. Grain of salt...... Last edited by SquidPuppet; 02-12-2013 at 08:16 PM. |

On one hand, I can understand their decision to not release it on BD as it's a Netflix exclusive, so from their POV, if you want to watch it, you should sign up. On the other hand, not everyone out there can play streaming content all that well, and plus it simply won't look as good as a BD either, even in "Super HD".
A BD/DVD release can certainly be another stream of revenue for Netflix if they can work out a proper distribution deal with someone. I'd love to see some extras like a Fincher commentary on the two eps he directed, and some behind the scenes stuff. |

I can see this changing though through two means - 1. the countries that don't have Netflix but have acquired the rights to show this as a regular TV show will probably release it themselves; 2. The shareholders at Netflix see viewing figures dipping for it and decide to get the extra revenue that boxsets can get. It's a way to squeeze some extra revenue out of what has been a massive gamble for them. However, with regards to the second part, it's taking away why they made that gamble in the first place so who knows? EDIT: Basically, what MifuneFan said ![]() |

Of course, the demand for season 4 might also make them see dollar signs with regards to DVD sales (I imagine the DVD sales are what attracted them to make it in the first place) but, going by Netflix's comments, I have a feeling that the first option might be the business plan they're going for. I hope I'm wrong though, or that they find a balance that somehow works both ways. * Except finding a less legitimate way to watch it of course. |

I just wonder if it is working. Are people actually taking out a subscription in order to be able to watch this show. Have they gained enough to justify the millions spent on the show? I think that also selling the show on Blu-ray and DVD would be very wise for them. It would generate tons of revenue and buzz. And I dont think it would hurt their streaming subscription numbers either. Just follow the industry standard pattern and release the discs 12 months after the show "airs". People who want to "See it now" will either keep their subscriptions or sign up for a subscription. It's really no different than a cable network like HBO selling their shows on disc. I dont believe that Game of Thrones being available on Blu-ray has caused HBO viewers to cancel their subscription and wait for the home video release. And I know HBO sells TONS of copies of their shows. It just seems like a hell of a lot of revenue to forfeit on the hope/gamble/bet that streaming subscriptions increase enough to pay for the production. I can see the debate between the extra revenue vs. the selling point of exclusivity being a tough on for them though. There's huge pros and cons to both. Though I hope that this - Quote:
