This would have been a Day 1 release for me but at £19 there's just no way.

3D edition - £17.99 at Sainsburys

They have the regular edition up for £29.99 at the moment but I'm sure that will change.

Have pre-ordered the 3D and steelbook editions. I'm not usually a double-dipper but The Hobbit is different. Hopefully the price of the steelbook will drop though.

For those wondering what the lenticular slipcase will look like on the 3D version -

The 3D one looks sweet, I hope it comes with the 2D disc and all the extras though.

The 3d Version has 4 disks while the 2D has 2. Looks like the 3D version gets more than just the film in 3D.

My thoughts exactly. Too much for a blind buy.

I'm sure I read somewhere that that's the case. Certainly, going by the US specs, the extras are the same for both versions.

By all accounts the Extended Edition is out in October. If this turns out not to be the case it'll be November instead, like FOTR and TTT. It's promotion for the next film so, sadly, it has to wait. Plus they have to get all the special features sorted and, although Peter jackson says the edit was done on the Extended Edition, I imagine there's still 3D rendering, SFX and score to be done.

The prices will come down, I've pre-ordered the Steelbook, but obviously if it stays £20 I'll cancel it, but I reckon it'll go down to £15-16 closer to the release date.

It's only being split on the 3D edition. the 2D film will all be on one disc.

As for the Extended Edition, there's just over twenty minutes of new stuff going in (by what has been said by Jackson) so I imagine both will be split over two discs, just like the LOTR EE BDs. Twenty more minutes isn't going to push the 3D version over two discs, it'll fit fine.

dont be silly
UK steels rarely ever get 3D versions included

cant see why they would need too. Its only about 2.5hrs long - same as Avatar and that fits on a single disc

If they do split the movie I'm not going to bother with double dipping down the line for the 3D version. It drives me nuts having to swap Titanic 2 hours in, but I bloody love that movie, and the 3D is beyond amazing so I deal...however, I'm not as hyped on Hobbit so will likely stick to the 2D only steelbook.

might do the same, depending how my finances are come April (am going back to work next week so they should improve. I can deal with paying £20 -if I recall correct Thor and CA were £19.99- for a SB but wont pay more than that locally)

where has it been confirmed that the Theatrical version will be spilt?
Only LOTR's EE's were split with the Theatrical being on a single disc

I reiterate my earlier point - This movie isnt long enough to warrant splitting

It's confirmed somewhere in the US thread but, without going through that, the best proof I can offer you is from the press release regarding the US edition:

Quote:
“The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” will be available on 3-Disc Blu-ray Combo Pack for $35.99, on 5-Disc Blu-ray 3D Combo Pack for $44.95
As the extras for both are exactly the same for the 2D and 3D versions that means the extra disc is because they have chosen to split the 3D version across two discs. Whether you see the point of that or not, it's what they've gone for.

Ordered the 3D version, £17.99. No point paying more for the 2D version with less content. May cancel anyway nearer the time and wait for the EE.
