Onto some Twilight Time business...I must confess that I'm now feeling the sting of the new international postal rates. I went to order IN LIKE FLINT this morning (I already have OUR MAN FLINT) but I only got halfway through the process when I cancelled...decided I just couldn't justify it with the increased shipping right now.

I will still buy it. However, I have a lot of standing pre-orders for other things and some of the "marginal" titles will have to wait for awhile. Maybe April.
It's that first title which hurts us cross-border Dex. So just group them; SAE's shipping cost per additional title is pretty modest, and 3 of them gets you a sturdy little box with bubble and styro.

As many keep reminding us, most of these TT titles will be around for several months before they even come close to the '500 remaining' threshold. Plenty of time to consolidate...especially any borderline interest titles.

I can't wait, which is why I take local orders to defer my own shipping costs.

Did TT post artwork for Christine yet? Or is that the same day as the pre-orders go up?

This question has probably been asked about a million times in this thread, but is there any word on whether or not the sold-out Twilight Time titles will be made available elsewhere, depending on movie rights, etc.? It vexes me that I missed out on Journey to the Center of the Earth and Mysterious Island.

In the US? NO WAY, not for 3 years and then im betting they won't be in a hurry to reprint them. Outside the US? Maybe although I haven't heard any word. Only thing I have heard about is As Good as it Gets and I think Steel Magnolias.

That's a bummer, but I can at least enjoy my DVD editions of these movies for a while longer. Thanks for the response!

I'll probably just enjoy the thrill of the hunt at used Blu-ray stores in my area or by glancing around online ever so often. I did not have a Blu-ray player when those two movies were announced here, so I missed the boat entirely.

Fortunately, I should ready when The Driver comes up for pre-order.

It's understandable to be wary of blind-buying in this case, although I will say that it sometimes can be very rewarding. For example, Rapture was a blind-buy for me, and I absolutely loved it.

Fox can release them outside of North America, but they probably won't. The only titles they've released so far are The Egyptian and Rains of Ranchipur, with As Good as it Gets coming soon.

Another way to look at - buy it for $35 and if you really don't like it sell it on the secondary market here or on EBay. It's doubtful that you will get the full $35 back but I'm sure it would sell very quick here for say $20 (I know I would jump on it at that price). Then you are only looking at a $15 blind buy. Just an idea.

Well Fox haven't released them in Europe, they've licensed them out to other companies to release (along with a lot of other titles), so it's a case of do these companies want other titles to release, & I think they do. It looks like Germany, France & Spain really love these old Hollywood films, I'm glad to report.

Most of the larger studios have home video divisions in European countries (and Japan) that have some pull to release catalog titles on their own even if the US main company is not, so it wouldn't surprise me to learn if France or Germany see a different business opportunity for a title like As Good As It Gets as opposed to the US.

Just finished Bite The Bullet. I don't understand the dislike for the film. I thought it was excellent. It was a much less serious and good natured Western and a lot of fun in additional to having great performances. I look forward to revisiting it. Highly Recommended.

Canada Things that make you go "Hmmm..."

TT has posted Nick Redman's extended career-spanning BAFTA L.A. interview with director Michael Apted (at 50 minutes, it's long but engrossing, especially regarding Apted's one-of-a-kind "Up" documentaries for Granada TV).

But this sidebar piece left me wondering - as usual - what the 'connection' might be - if any - in terms of TT's own product schedule. Was this just another extension of Redman's comprehensive range of interests in film, or a possible tip-off that TT might be considering a Michael Apted film for the TT collection? Off the top, I can think of 2 fine candidates from the Columbia/TriStar/Sony catalogue: Enigma (with its superb Tom Stoppard screenplay and bittersweet John Barry score), and Thunderheart (with its ace Roger Deakins' cinematography and evocative James Horner score).

Probably a coincidence...just Rock idly free-associating again. But with TT now panning Sony's post 90s+ catalogue for overlooked HD nuggets, that pair really stood out in terms of their potential for retro-showcase.

I watched my copy of Nicholas and Alexandra yesterday, was very impressed with the video quality and the film itself. Never saw it before but am a huge fan of that period of history as well as epic films. It really does feel like a long lost David Lean film. Solid acting in all roles, especially Tom Baker is who is great as Rasputin. I'm sure this one won't be quick to sell out, but I'm glad I got it right away just in case.
