![]() But those titles you are looking at are the Region-B StudioCanal titles. In the U.S., Lionsgate has released only a small portion of them. Pro-B |

Is there any chance of Criterion releasing Bergman's "Persona"?
I still have to watch my first film by him ![]() What would you guys recommend first?

My real first recommendation is Wild Strawberries, but from that list, I'd say The Seventh Seal. Fanny And Alexander is in a way more accessible, but the length endangers that a bit.

![]() But seriously, the most iconic Bergman is THE SEVENTH SEAL, while as I mentioned in an earlier post FANNY AND ALEXANDER may be more accessible to many and has a broader variety of tones throughout, and SUMMER INTERLUDE sets up everything he would ever do afterwards. SMILES OF A SUMMER NIGHT is likely his most entertaining (as well as the inspiration for A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S SEX COMEDY), but you can't go wrong with any of those titles. It helps to see THE MAGICIAN after seeing several of his other films, to recognize some of his recurring themes and off-beat sense of humor (sort of a strange cross between THE SEVENTH SEAL and SMILES OF A SUMMER NIGHT, among others). SUMMER WITH MONIKA is a good intense coming-of-age drama with a Bergman touch, but is not quite so "Bergmany" as the others. You might like some better than others, but if you don't like whichever one you watch at all then you probably won't like any of the others. |

Does anyone have tips on getting in touch with criterion? I emailed them weeks ago regarding some issues with movies I bought, but I haven't heard a single thing. It's disheartening to say the least. I don't know what to do, I don't see a number to call or any other recourse to take.
I'd love if anyone had an experience they could relate here. Thanks as usual ![]() |
