The content is violent and degrading and there are scenes you'll wish later you had not seen:
[Show spoiler]a nun gets raped, a detective masturbates in public in front of two young girls he has been harassing.
It will leave you with an unpleasant feeling in the end (and that's putting it mildly).

I realize some may defend the film using words like "brave" and "uncompromising" to describe the directors vision or Keitel's performance. So rent it if you must. It has zero replay value in my opinion.
I love Bad Lieutenant, but I don't recommend people go in blindly.
You're right to point out some of the unpleasantness, because this film is definitely not for everyone.
As they say, YMMV.

Almost done watching Modern Times.

It's my first Chaplin film and I think my first silent film I've seen. It's pretty fun and very different, which is always welcome for me.

Word of advice, don't watch a film, especially a silent film, when you're tired. I've been dozing in and out

Its about that time guys. Any predictions for announcements tomorrow? I would like Scanners finally but CC will not release it a month after releasing Naked Lunch. The Devils Backbone or Easerhead maybe. What upgrades do you think. All I ask from Criterions announcement is for at least one title completely out of the blue that was not on anybody's radar.

I dream about them releasing The Werckmeister Harmonies. A stunning film that would simply be amazing in HD.

Me, I stink at this, so I'll renew my simplistic desire for Dekalog, more Bergman upgrades and a premature announcement for Linklater's Sunrise, Sunset, Midnight set. Throw in The Straight Story, Sweet Hereafter, B'tpui (sp?) (the israeli series In Treatment is based on) and Diving Bell & the Butterfly and I'll give Mulvaney my nice car.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Wenders' Road Trilogy. I seem to remember it being expected around November time but failing to appear

After recently finishing it on DVD I'd love to see them announce Wender's Road Trilogy. Is there any chance of getting the full cut of his Until the End of the World?

I wouldn't mind seeing more Kieslowski either. Everybody raves about Dekalog, so I really wouldn't mind seeing it. Same with the Before series.

A lot of people always hope for The Diving Bell And The Butterfly. Is it rumored that Criterion will announce it soon?

I'm with you on that iScottie. Two of my favorite Bergman films.

I haven't seen Virgin Spring, but I'd rank Wild Strawberries as the Bergman film that has most strongly resonated with me.

I'd also be interested in Wenders's Until the End of the World. It may be the first "arthouse" movie I saw in theaters back when it was initially released. I'd be curious to see it now that I have more exposure to his and other "serious" films.

We know for sure Lord of the Flies is coming, probably will get announced tomorrow.

My number 1 Criterion long shot wish is Wendy and Lucy, I imagine if they ever announced it I would probably just explode.

I finished Modern Times.

For minimal talking, it was a fantastic, in my opinion. I'll re-watch it in the near future as I fell asleep for a small chunk from the cafeteria until he started working at the department store and then I fell back asleep to when he working at the night club. I want to say it was about 15 minutes altogether I missed.

It was a good take about how the world was changing and how everybody had to adjust. For Chaplin, he had to adjust to modernization and fitting in in the world, while Goddard had to deal with being an orphan.

I'd recommend it. It was the first film I've seen by Chaplin and I can't wait to see TGD and TGR.

I'm watching Sweet Smell Of Success now. I heard it was a pretty good film-noir film, so I'm looking forward to it.

Upon opening the case, it appears as if octagon's mystery avatar has been identified!

I agree, it's been rather quiet on the prediction front this week, I don't recall that happening ever in the past
