To avoid reading through an 85 page thread - is there a UK release of this film that is as good as the US version? I'm talking about the actual movie, I heard it was cut over here (or am I a few months behind everybody?)

Would I be better off importing the US version? I would prefer the UK version * but I honestly have no idea of which version to go for.

* The UK steelbook is 100% out of the question - even for the disk alone.

If you want the full version of the film, yeah, you'll need to import. So silly that the version we got to go see in droves at the cinemas isn't on offer here.

US is the only version worth getting. You get the proper title on the film a tonne of extras and it's uncut.

But if you dont care for extras or the title change and aren't bothered by the one scene that was edited then get the UK version.

Putting it plain and simply: All version of Avengers Assemble in the UK are cut and do not contain some special features (All deleted scenes are present, though). Sainsburys has the extra BD on its own 2D (no 3D) edition.

If you want the movie and are willing to put up with a single visual edit, depending on how you feel about edits, and don't really watch the special features that much, just get the 2D release. If you want all the things, then you're better off importing the Target release.

Thank you everyone, you really have helped a lot with my decision. I think I'll go for the US Blu-Ray version from the DVD World USA website.

I'm not really sure why the extra scene matters to me, I just like to get what I pay for, if that makes sense. Plus, it means I have a reason to use a custom cover.

I've just ordered the 3D US version from Blu Bastard. £24.99 with free p&p.

I'd recommend trying to get hold of the Target release if you can - it contains the sainsbury's bonus disc which is a 90 min documentary on the run up to Avengers (kind of a Marvel Movies history. Nothing too amazing, with little you probably didnt already know, but its a nice bit of content too have IMO) as well as a UK downloadable copy of the soundtrack (I'm unsure if all US versions offer the soundtrack or if its Target exclusive also)

You'd probably need to ask a fellow US board member to help with that though (if your lucky enough there may even be a few viva cases floating around - though the UK steel artwork is much simpler and nicer IMO. Failing that, the US slip is VERY nice too )

The US release has a commentary track, music video and additional featurette lasting about 8 minutes, hardly a tonne of extras

Don't be surprised if it takes 2 weeks or more.

US import is definitely the way to go, especially the TARGET release.
All bonus content, including what we didn't get here.

Plus, it's got the correct name on it (The Avengers).

Thanks.

I personally hate steelbooks and the like though. I went with the US Blu Ray & DVD combo in the end. It hasn't arrived yet so fingers crossed that the slipcover doesn't arrive damaged.

That is what sold it, for me. I wanted The Avengers, not Avengers Assemble.

fair enough, and if the 3D slip's owt too go by, you'll be impressed by the 'pretty'

I have the UK Avengers SteelBook, but I've also got the huge Phase 1 box-set on preorder (luckily got in there before it went to a daft price). No regrets, it has 3D versions, an extra disc unavailable anywhere else, and a bunch of other cool stuff and I CAN'T WAIT!

Hmmm. I'm currently undecided. Cheapest I can get it with no customs guaranteed is £130, which is a heck of a chunk of dough to pay for a bonus disc (which can't be THAT good) and some other tat. Heck, if it had the Iron Man 1 & 2 extras discs then that would at least say to me "this isn't a total cash grab" but without them it'll always have something missing.

As for the 3D, Thor was okay, Cap was pretty good but Avengers was dire, so the 3D aspect doesn't sway me. I sold all my Phase 1 movies in anticipation of this set, but I can rebuy them for a lot less than the boxset.

I'm not too fussed about the 3D tbh, I just thought it was a nice bonus. I wouldn't buy it as the price it is now, but when I put my preorder in it was under £100.

I have not been that impressed with the whole of Phase 1. Captain America was average, I watched once but got bored so have not bothered watching the end yet - maybe my opinion will change when I do that. Thor I have watched twice, not bothered buying it yet as it's alright but nothing special. Iron Man I enjoyed and have watched that 3 or 4 times, Iron Man 2 I watched once only as wasn't great. Incredible Hulk I watched twice but only because a friend wanted to watch it. The Avengers I watched once only, over-hyped and over-rated. I'd like to watch it again sometime if I can't think of anything better to do.

Each to their own. I'm not a fawning fan or anything but I enjoy The Avengers more with every watch. I checked it out purely because Joss Whedon was involved and I've loved his work since Buffy (and Toy Story, if that counts), so I knew it'd be worth watching.
I quite like Thor (but that's probably because I like Thor anyway), Iron Man was unexpectedly good and The Incredible Hulk was okay. I have seen Captain America yet (probably gonna watch it tonight), and I didn't much like Iron Man 2. Basically I just want the shiny metal case and the glowing tesseract replica, because I'm kind of a dork.

Where from? If you're talking about amazon but didn't pay the enhanced shipping inc pre-paid customs, then you're likely to get a nice surprise from Royal Mail when it gets delivered.
