Not sure how this might play into the Sound Editing & Sound Mixing categories for the OSCARS next Sunday night but...

'Life Of Pi' Wins Pair of Sound Editors' Awards.

Quote:
"Skyfall," "Les Miserables" and "Wreck-It Ralph" win one trophy each in MPSE feature categories.

Sound editing teams from Life of Pi won two awards in the feature film categories at the Motion Picture Sound Editors’s 60th MPSE Golden Reel Awards, Sunday at the Westin Bonaventure.

Life of Pi was honored in dialogue and ADR editing and music editing. Also in features, sound editing teams from Skyfall topped the category of sound effects and Foley editing, and Les Miserables for music editing in a musical.

Life of Pi and Skyfall are nominated for the Oscar in sound editing, along with Argo, Django Unchained, and Zero Dark Thirty.

During the Golden Reel Awards, the sound editors of Wreck-It Ralph received the award for sound editing in an animated feature.

Always remember that "oscars" are and always be more about politics than merit.

Argo is the surefire Best Picture winner. It'd be shocking if it somehow lost. Best Director and Best Supporting Actor are toss-ups. Hathaway and Day-Lewis already have their speeches prepared. Jennifer Lawrence might as well get hers as well.

I agree, and also think the idea of films being held in competition like this to be sort of silly.

This is one of my favorite "Oscar moments" where Hoffman calls out the very idea of competition in the arts. Skip to 3:44 in.

By no means did I find it the best film of the year, but I can certainly see how this is the most "Academy Friendly" movie. It has the rare ability to draw in all sensibilities and demographics.

How do you know this? It's currently 7th place on my list of the 9, so I would also feel better, but I think it has it.

Reviving this topic....

I just updated my picks in message #288. Here they are again:

Best Picture: Lincoln
Actor - Leading Role: Daniel Day-Lewis (Lincoln)
Actress - Leading Role: Emanuelle Riva (Amour)
Actor - Supporting Role: Tommy Lee Jones (Lincoln)
Actress - Supporting Role: Anne Hathaway (Les Misérables)
Animated Feature Film: Rich Moore (Wreck-It Ralph)
Cinematography: Roger Deakins (Skyfall)
Costume Design: Jacqueline Durran (Anna Karenina)
Directing: Steven Spielberg (Lincoln)
Documentary Feature: Bendjelloul & Chinn (Searching for Sugar Man)
Ducumentary Short: Wade & Honan (Mondays at Racine)
Film Editing: Tichenor & Goldenberg (Zero Dark Thirty)
Foreign Language Film: Kon-Tiki (Norway)
Makeup and Hairstyling: Westcott & Dartnell (Les Misérables)
Music - Original Score: Mychael Danna (Life of Pi)
Music - Original Song: Adele & Epworth (Skyfall)
Production Design: Carter & Erickson (Lincoln)
Short Film - Animated: John Kahrs (Paperman)
Short Film - Live Action: Shawn Christensen (Curfew)
Sound Editing: Hallberg & Landers (Skyfall)
Sound Mixing: Nelson, Paterson & Hayes (Les Misérables)
Visual Effects: Westenhofer, Rocheron, De Boer & Elliott (Life of Pi)
Writing - Adapted Screenplay: David Magee (Life of Pi)
Writing - Original Screenplay: Mark Boal (Zero Dark Thirty)

If I'm right, 'Lincoln' will take the most statues with 5 Oscars, followed by 'Les Misérables', 'Skyfall', and 'Life of Pi' with 3 Oscars each.

Since I will be attending both the 'Foreign Language Film Award Nominees' symposium and the 'Makeup Artists and Hairstylists' symposium at the Academy headquarters on Saturday, I'll have more insight on those awards Saturday night. But I have a good feeling about my choices and don't expect to change anything.

Yes, Argo is going to get shutout.

Remember, as of 2009, the Best Picture (and only the Best Picture) is determined through a Ranked Choice Voting system. It's not simply a matter of which film gets the most #1 spot votes. Where each film gets ranked when it's not in the voter's #1 spot is important too. Conceivably, Argo could get more #1 spot votes than Lincoln but still lose to Lincoln if Lincoln got an overwhelming number of #2 and #3 spot votes compared to Argo.

Lincoln will win.

Mark

I have a good sneaking suspicion that Silver Linings Playbook will with Picture, Director, Editor, Script, Supporting Actor and Actress..

I can't see the Academy giving the picture award to a movie without even the director being nominated.

Long shot, Silver Linings could win the big four!!!!

How about you post your picks for every category, like I did?!

Nobody else have the balls to try to pick them all?
