DDR5 is not confirmed, but he did say fast RAM which would go together with the rumored 176GB/s. Very happy with the specs.

He said GDDR5 on stage, I'm sure he did. There were audible gasps around me.

8GB GDDR5 GIGATON!

GDDR5 was specifically mentioned at one point.

Dedicated hardware for video encode/decode.. standard stuff now but how it's utilised is massive.

Also dedicated processing for downloads etc while in standby or off? Play-as-you-download. sogood.gif

I'm watching the Gametrailers after show and most of the developers are praising the 8gb. "Developers are the only one that know how much that matters, because we were so constrained"

I definitely caught that on the stream, because I thought it was odd when it wasn't mentioned originally when he brought up 8gb, so I was relieved when he later confirmed.

8GB DDR5 is confirmed. He even mentioned how special DDR5 memory is

My question: How much of that 8GB is dedicated to features like the share button?

I must have missed Cerny mentioning DDR5

8GB GDDR5 Unified Memory Architecture (UMA).

No-one believed it could happen!

Probably very little since they have the dedicated video encode/decode chip and a hard drive based cache.

Because PS3 had 512mb, which is 1/16th the amount of 8GB that will be found in the PS4.

The most important part is the DDR5 aspect though. That takes the 1/16th of quantity and multiplies it based on the strength and efficiency of DDR5 RAM to handle complex calculations compared to older types of RAM.

So, just on PROCESSING MEMORY VOLUME, the PS4 will be able to process A MINIMUM of 16x more information through the CPU processing power. And that is a minimum because it's yet unknown how much better DDR5 can efficiently manipulate the processing power further.

Thankfully that's confirmed so the other thread can settle down a bit.
